Car rental is the travel category where geography does not just tilt the price, it can double it. The same car, at the same airport, for the same week, routinely costs one figure if you tell the site you live in Germany and a far higher one if you say you live somewhere else, and the site verifies which is true by looking at your driver's license when you arrive. That makes car rental one of the cleanest geo-pricing targets on the web, and it makes proxies for car rental scraping specific in an unusual way: the exit you need is not the country you are renting in, it is the country the driver lives in.

What proxies are best for car rental?
Rotating residential proxies pinned to the country of residence whose rate you want, with a static residential (ISP) exit for any logged-in loyalty session. Rental sites price by country of residence and rate-limit datacenter ranges, so a home connection in the driver's country is both the accuracy rule and the reputation rule. A mobile exit is the fallback for runs that keep getting limited.
Residence sets the price, and it is verified at pickup
Here is the fact the whole category turns on. Car rental companies can and do charge different prices for the same car and the same itinerary depending on the country of residence of the driver, and the gaps are large. A seven-day rental in Frankfurt has been documented ranging from about $358 for a German resident to about $749 for an Israeli resident for the same intermediate car, and a renter selecting Ecuadorian residency saw prices around half of what US residency showed (Elliott Advocacy; FlyerTalk). The reason is plain commercial: rental companies charge what each market will bear, and rates, included insurance such as a loss-damage waiver, and local competition all differ by country.
Two things follow, and the second is what keeps this honest. First, to read the rate a resident of a given country sees, the request has to appear to come from that country, which is what a residential exit in that market does. Second, residence is checked at the counter: rental firms verify country of residence through the driver's license at pickup, and some country-specific sites block holders of certain licenses from booking their rates (Tripadvisor forum). So this is a pricing signal to measure, not an arbitrage to book across. A tracker reads what each market pays; it does not pretend a German resident can turn up on a US license and keep the German rate.
How car rental sites block you
The serious rental sites (Hertz, Avis, Enterprise) defend against automated searching with the standard travel stack: datacenter ranges are rate-limited and challenged, results load with JavaScript, and repeated identical searches from one address draw blocks. None of it is exotic, but it is enough that a scripted client from a hosting range does not last. The reads that survive look like a shopper: a home address in the residence you are reading, a real browser or a well-formed client, cookies carried through a session, and a human pace.
Which proxy type fits: residential, datacenter, ISP, or mobile
Datacenter proxies are rate-limited early and, worse here, cannot represent a country of residence convincingly. Reserve them for developing a parser on saved pages.
Rotating residential proxies are home connections from a pool, one per search, rotated, pinned to the residence, and they read the rate that residence is shown while passing the reputation check (background in what is a residential proxy).
ISP proxies are static residential addresses for logged-in loyalty sessions (Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, Avis Preferred, Enterprise Emerald Club), which hold on one address.
Mobile proxies are carrier IPs shared by many phones, the last-ditch tier for runs that keep getting limited.

Free versus paid for car rental
A free proxy is a shared datacenter address that cannot stand in for a country of residence and gets rate-limited on the serious sites. Setting it up
Pin the exit to the country of residence, not the rental country. This is the one place car rental differs from every other travel target: you are renting in Frankfurt, but the price depends on where the driver lives, so if you want the German-resident rate you exit from Germany, and if you want the US-resident rate you exit from the US, both for the same Frankfurt pickup. Read each location across the residencies your customers actually come from, record the residence with every rate, and never merge rates from different residencies into one average. Rotate one IP per search for public rates and hold a sticky ISP exit for loyalty sessions; the split is in rotating vs static residential proxies. Use a browser where the site needs one (Playwright, Puppeteer).
How many IPs, and how fast
Sizing (rotating residential, one refresh cycle):
searches/cycle = locations x pickup dates x residencies
= 500 x 30 x 4 = 60,000 searches
per search = a page read, browser where required
per address = a few searches, then rotate
Read the residencies that matter, not all of them. The pool spreads it.

Staying unblocked on car rental sites
- Exit from the country of residence, not the rental country. The defining rule of this category.
- Record the residence with every rate. A rate without its residence is meaningless here.
- Never book across a residence you cannot prove. Pickup verifies the license; treat the data as a signal, not a hack.
- One search per address, then rotate.
- Pace like a shopper. Jitter and spread; the checklist is in avoiding IP bans while scraping.
The limits worth knowing
Proxies let a car rental read appear to come from the driver's country of residence and spread a tracker so the site sees shoppers. They do not change that residence is verified at pickup, they do not create a public rate API, and they do not change the sites' terms of service. Read residence as the pricing signal it is, keep it labeled, and the market picture is honest.
