Shared vs Dedicated Proxies: What the Price Difference Buys

A shared proxy serves several customers at the same time, and a dedicated one serves only you. At six sellers' price pairs, a dedicated IP or pool cost 1.7 to 7 times the shared grade in October 2026. Bright Data, for one, charges $1.45 per shared ISP IP at 100 IPs and $2.75 per dedicated one. Our static ISP and datacenter proxies are dedicated, at $2.70/IP and $1.58/IP a month.

What is the difference between shared and dedicated proxies?

Who else uses the address. A shared IP carries several customers' traffic at once, so its reputation also reflects what they do. A dedicated IP carries only yours for the period you rent it.

Sellers use different words for the grades in between:

SellerGrade nameWhat it means
Oxylabssemi-dedicatedshared ISP IPs, up to 3 users
Webshareprivateshared with 1 to 2 users
Websharededicated"Fully owned by you"
Evomishared, private, virgingraded by how many customers used the address
HProxyprivate proxiesdedicated datacenter IPv4, one customer

So read the definition behind the word before you compare prices. Rotating pools sit at the shared end by design. Rayobyte writes of its mobile network that each IP is "shared by many phone users". Rainproxy runs its per-GB ISP traffic on "the shared static pool".

How much more does a dedicated proxy cost?

At the six same-seller pairs we found, dedicated cost 1.7 to 7 times shared:

Five of the six pairs fall between 1.7 and 3 times.

Webshare's gap is the widest: $2.10 per dedicated ISP IP against $0.30 shared, both at 20 IPs. Rainproxy charges $2.98 per GB for its Exclusive Residential pool and $0.99 for its Smart pool. Evomi charges $1.00 for a shared IP, $2.50 for a private one and $4.50 for a virgin one.

One pair falls far outside the range. Webshare's dedicated datacenter IP costs $1.33 at 20 IPs, and its shared Proxy Server plan $0.0299 per proxy, or $2.99 a month for 100. That plan is a large pool sold by the hundred, so the ratio says more about the product than the grade.

Does the gap close at volume?

Barely, at Bright Data. Its ISP prices fall with size for both grades, and the ratio stays near two:

Bright Data ISP price per IP, shared and dedicatedUS dollars per IP per month at 10, 100 and 1,000 IPs
At every size, a dedicated Bright Data ISP IP costs about twice a shared one.

Its datacenter IPs show a smaller gap that narrows with volume: 1.6 times at 10 IPs, 1.7 at 100 and 1.4 at 1,000. Shared datacenter addresses are cheap elsewhere too. Proxy6 charged $0.41 per shared IPv4 for 30 days, and Proxyline, ProxyStores and SpaceProxy $0.99, in our records of October 10 to 14, 2026.

What does a shared IP cost besides money?

Its history. Sites judge an address partly by what came through it, and on a shared IP that includes other people's traffic. Free proxies show the extreme. We checked the working ones in Australia, Poland, the UAE and Japan on October 25 and 26, 2026. An IP reputation check had flagged every one.

A shared grade can also limit what you do with the address. You cannot ask a target to allowlist an IP that other customers use. And fair-use rules apply to the address as a whole: Bright Data gives each ISP IP a "100 GB fair usage allowance per month".

When is a shared proxy enough?

When another user's history on the address costs you little. Reading public pages, checking prices and testing code all fit. So do jobs that need many exits rather than one fixed identity, which is what rotating residential and mobile pools are built for.

When should you pay for a dedicated proxy?

When something is tied to the address. That covers an account or login you keep for weeks and an allowlist on your own systems or a partner's. It also covers a session that must keep one identity. For mobile, a dedicated proxy also pays off on volume: MarsProxies rents one for $95 for 30 days with unlimited data. Our comparison of the best mobile proxies works out where that beats per-GB pools.

Where does HProxy sit?

Our static proxies are dedicated. Static ISP proxies cost $2.70/IP a month and private proxies, our dedicated datacenter IPv4, $1.58/IP a month. IPv6 addresses cost $0.10/IP. We sell no shared static grade.

Our rotating residential and mobile proxies bill per GB, at $0.50/GB and $1.50/GB for one GB. They draw exits from shared pools by design. Our ISP proxy price study compares the static prices of 31 sellers.

What this page could not check

  • We tested no block rate or speed on shared or dedicated IPs, at any seller or ours.
  • We could not check how many customers really share each shared IP.
  • The price pairs come from five sellers. Two prices come from our records of September 26, 2026.
  • Sellers use the same words for different grades, so a name alone proves nothing.
  • We will check every number on this page again by January 26, 2027.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a shared and a dedicated proxy?

A shared proxy serves several customers at the same time, and a dedicated one serves only you. At the sellers that print both grades, a dedicated IP cost 1.7 to 7 times a shared one in October 2026.

Can static residential proxies be shared?

Yes. Bright Data, Oxylabs, Evomi and Webshare sell shared static ISP plans next to dedicated ones. Oxylabs calls its shared grade semi-dedicated, with up to 3 users on an IP.

Is a private proxy the same as a dedicated one?

It depends on the seller. At Webshare, private means shared with one or two other users. At Evomi, a private IP is yours alone, and a virgin IP has never been used by another customer. Ours call private proxies dedicated datacenter IPv4 used by one customer only.

When is a shared proxy enough?

For public pages, price checks and tests, where another user's history on the address costs you little. Rotating residential and mobile pools are shared by design, since many customers draw exits from the same network.

When should you pay for a dedicated proxy?

When an account, a login or an allowlist is tied to the address, or when a session must keep one identity for weeks. Then the IP's history should be yours alone.
