Proxies for GNC get another clean residential-versus-datacenter split. On 24 August 2026 we sent gnc.com a plain request from a home connection and it loaded the supplement store, HTTP 200, with PerimeterX cookies attached. The identical request from a datacenter server was redirected to a page titled "Access to this page has been denied" with a press-and-hold challenge. Same request, two addresses, and the datacenter IP was told to prove it was human while the home IP walked in. That result is the argument for residential proxies, made by the site.
GNC is a supplement and vitamin retailer, and its data has the same subscription shape as the pet stores: repeat-delivery auto-ship and a membership program make the real price a subscription price. The defense is PerimeterX, now HUMAN, sitting behind Cloudflare.
What proxies work best for GNC?
US rotating residential proxies behind a real browser for reading, and a static ISP proxy for a logged-in subscription account. Datacenter proxies draw the press-and-hold challenge on contact.
PerimeterX scored the datacenter IP down
PerimeterX (now HUMAN) works in layers, and IP reputation is the first (how to handle PerimeterX and HUMAN). A sensor script sets the _px cookies that later requests carry, and the server reads the TLS handshake before that; when the score tips, HUMAN serves the press-and-hold challenge that measures the micro-movement of the hold. Our datacenter request never got to browse, it was routed straight to the challenge, because a hosting-range address with no sensor data is exactly the profile HUMAN distrusts. The residential request loaded. The same vendor guards Wayfair and Sam's Club, so the residential-over-datacenter logic is identical, and the residential exit still needs a real browser that keeps its _px cookies and paces like a shopper.
Subscriptions and membership make the price a subscription
GNC pushes auto-delivery subscriptions with a discount off the one-time price, and its membership program adds member pricing and rewards. As with Chewy's Autoship, there are two prices for a product, the one-time price and the subscribed or member price, and they differ by a meaningful margin (proxies for Chewy). A benchmarking dataset has to record which state it captured, because comparing GNC's one-time price to a competitor's subscription price compares two different things. The subscribed and member views show in a logged-in session, which is a static-ISP account job.

Rotating residential IPs are the trusted addresses that load the site, and ISP proxies hold one address for a subscription account. The two differ as explained in rotating vs static residential proxies.

Exit from US residential addresses behind a real browser, keep the _px cookies, and pace like a shopper (proxies for Playwright). Capture the one-time and subscription prices separately, logging in on a static ISP address for the subscribed and member views. Label every price with its state. Do not mix public and member prices in one dataset.

Staying unblocked
- Do not retry the challenge from the same datacenter address. It will keep getting the press-and-hold; use a residential exit and a browser.
- Keep the _px cookies. They are the session's passport; discarding them resets the score.
- Separate public and member prices. They are different numbers with different meanings.
- Pace like a shopper. A steady flood from one IP is what PerimeterX catches.
- Watch the challenge rate. A rising share of denied pages means slow down or widen the pool. The full list is in avoiding IP bans while scraping.
What a proxy does not do here
A proxy gives you a trusted residential address and keeps accounts apart. It does not pass the press-and-hold for you, does not grant a membership, and does not turn the one-time price into the subscription price. Scraping gnc.com runs against its terms of use, a risk that stays with you regardless of the IPs. What a residential exit does is the one thing the datacenter IP could not in our test: load the site at all.
