Proxies for Sam's Club get the cleanest residential-versus-datacenter demonstration in this whole set. On 24 August 2026 we sent samsclub.com a plain request from a home connection and it loaded the site, HTTP 200. The identical request from a datacenter server was redirected to /are-you-human with a press-and-hold challenge and PerimeterX cookies. Same request, two addresses, and the only difference was reputation: the home IP was trusted and the datacenter IP was told to prove it was a person. That result is the entire argument for residential proxies, delivered by the site itself.
Sam's Club is Walmart's membership warehouse, and it shares Costco's shape: a club-first model where the real price sits behind a membership and stock is per club. The defense is HUMAN, the bot-management platform PerimeterX became.
What proxies work best for Sam's Club?
US rotating residential proxies behind a real browser for reading, and a static ISP proxy for a logged-in membership account. Datacenter proxies draw the human challenge on contact, as our test showed.
HUMAN scored the datacenter IP down on sight
HUMAN (formerly PerimeterX) works in layers, and IP reputation is the first (how to handle PerimeterX and HUMAN). A sensor script sets the _px cookies that later requests must carry, and the server reads the TLS handshake and header set before that; when the score tips, HUMAN serves the press-and-hold challenge that measures the micro-movement of the hold rather than the click. Our datacenter request never got to browse, it was routed straight to the challenge, because a hosting-range address with no sensor data is exactly the profile HUMAN distrusts. The residential request, from an address that reads as a home connection, was allowed to load. The same vendor guards Walmart, so a pipeline built for one transfers to the other (proxies for Walmart).
The lesson for proxy choice is direct: residential is not a nice-to-have here, it is the difference between loading the site and staring at a robot test. And because HUMAN scores behavior after the IP, the residential exit still needs a real browser that keeps its _px cookies and paces like a shopper.
Membership and Instant Savings gate the price
Sam's Club sells on membership. There are two tiers, Club and Plus, and Plus members earn 2 percent Sam's Cash on qualifying in-club purchases up to a yearly cap, in addition to the member-only Instant Savings that replace public coupons (Sam's Club, Club and Plus benefits). The consequence for a data project is the same as Costco's: the price a logged-out scraper sees is the public price, and the price a member pays includes Instant Savings and, for Plus, cash back. A benchmarking dataset has to record whether a price is the public or the member view, and the member view requires a login on a persistent session.
Stock is the second axis. Sam's Club prices and stocks by club and keys availability to a selected club it infers from your location, so a read that ignores the club blends different warehouses into one misleading number. Pin the club, record it, and match the exit to the club's region.

Setup
Exit from US residential addresses behind a real browser, keep the _px cookies, and pace like a shopper (proxies for Playwright). Pin the club through the site's own selector, record it with every price, and match the exit to the club's region so the site does not re-infer one. For member pricing, log in on a static ISP address held for the account, and label those prices as the member view. Do not mix public and member prices in one dataset.

For reading, find how fast one residential IP reads behind a browser before HUMAN challenges it, and add exits, with a sticky exit per club. For accounts, one static ISP address each. Free versus paid for Sam's Club
The test settles it: a datacenter client got the are-you-human page on contact, and that is what a free proxy is. Staying unblocked
- Do not retry the challenge from the same datacenter address. It will keep getting the robot test; use a residential exit and a browser.
- Keep the _px cookies. They are the session's passport; discarding them resets the score.
- Pin the club and match the exit. A blended-club price is a wrong number, and a mismatched exit flags the session.
- Separate public and member prices. They are different numbers with different meanings.
- Watch the challenge rate. A rising share of are-you-human pages means slow down or widen the pool. The full list is in avoiding IP bans while scraping.
What a proxy does not do here
A proxy gives you a trusted residential address and keeps accounts apart. It does not pass the press-and-hold for you, does not grant a membership, and does not turn the public price into the Instant Savings price. Scraping samsclub.com and multi-accounting both run against Sam's Club terms, a risk that stays with you regardless of the IPs. What a residential exit does is the one thing the datacenter IP could not do in our test: load the site at all.
