People who search for a War Thunder proxy mean one of two things. Most of the searches Google suggests are about the proximity fuse on shells and rockets. The rest ask whether a VPN or a proxy is allowed. They want to play when the route from their provider to the servers fails, reach a server, or pay less in the store. This page answers the second question from the Gaijin legal documents, War Thunder news and staff answers on the official forum, read on 28 September 2026. The short answer: Gaijin staff say a VPN used only to play is ok. The Store Policy bans a VPN that fakes your location for fraudulent purposes, and the rules bar extra accounts and any way around a ban.
"Proxy" in War Thunder usually means a fuse
Google autocomplete shows what the word means to players. For "war thunder proxy" it suggests "war thunder proximity fuse", "war thunder proxy he", "war thunder proxy rounds" and "war thunder disable proxy fuse". For "war thunder vpn" it suggests "war thunder vpn ban", "war thunder store vpn" and "war thunder golden eagles vpn". The rest of this page is about those VPN questions.
What Gaijin staff say about VPNs
The official forum has direct answers from the Gaijin Community Manager. On 24 March 2026 a player said their internet provider had changed its routing, and they could not join a battle without a VPN. The answer: "If you will use it only to play the game, it’s ok".
On 31 March 2026 another player asked about a VPN to reach the Southeast Asian server. The same account replied on 1 April: "You can use VPN if you use it to get a better connection to the servers". In October 2024 a player asked about buying in the store while on holiday. The answer: "It’s not forbidden". It added that this "can lead to some issues in future (for example different currency in store etc)".

The Gaijin Store: regions, prices and VPNs
The Store Policy was last updated on 21 September 2026. Section 1.2 says some items are sold only in some regions, and that Gaijin may "set different prices for different areas". Section 1.3 is the rule on VPNs: "Using a VPN or similar technology to manipulate your location for fraudulent purposes is strictly prohibited". Such use "constitutes a material breach of this Store Policy and the Terms and Conditions". Gaijin may then suspend or delete the account.
A forum account titled Developer has explained how the store handles currency. In June 2024 a player asked why paying from a Steam balance cost 80 percent more. The answer: "You used the VPN and your account was automatically converted to using USD as an anti-fraud measure". In October 2024 it added: "You keep your initial currency regardless of where you login from". A new store location needs a local bank card, which you use to pay and to confirm the change.
The Terms of Service add that the services "may not be accessible in all regions". Gaijin may limit access in some regions at its own discretion.
Accounts and bans
The terms are short on accounts: "User shall not create multiple Accounts." A user whom Gaijin has banned must not use the services again. The license terms bar "cheats, hacks, bots, macros, scripts" and spoofers. They also bar any "unauthorized connection to the Game(s)", including software or tools Gaijin does not permit.
The rule on bans is the one that matters for a proxy. A player "must not attempt to evade, circumvent, or interfere with a sanction". The Code of Conduct lists the ways: "creating or using another Account", an account controlled by someone else, "concealing or altering device identity", and spoofing tools. Gaijin may then suspend or delete all related accounts, and restrict access from the devices involved.
On 5 December 2024 Gaijin announced that War Thunder would switch to BattlEye within weeks. Gaijin says it works "on both the server and client sides". Gaijin also reports its bans in regular Fair Play posts.

The August report adds 278 accounts banned for a week or longer for teamkilling and griefing, 10 of them for good.
The Gaijin Market
The Trade Policy, last updated on 2 June 2025, covers the Gaijin Marketplace. Trades use Coins, and "Coins cannot be exchanged for real money". Gaijin may ask for extra verification or review the trade history of an account. With multiple accounts barred by the terms, there is no second trading account to keep apart.
