Market localization and the partner API
Trainline localizes results, currency and language by the market of the request, so reading the fare a French or German traveler sees means searching as that market from an in-country exit. It also runs a B2B arm, Trainline Partner Solutions, whose API powers other travel sellers and has been integrated by Sabre and Travelport. That partner API is the sanctioned route for a business that qualifies; without it, the data comes from the public site and Trainline's terms restrict automated access, which is where proxies come in.

Trainline defends its public site against automated searching the way a large aggregator does: datacenter ranges challenged, repeated searches from one address rate-limited, results loaded dynamically.
