Most people who search for an OSRS proxy want one of three things. They want to run bots on separate addresses, get past a login error, or pay for membership from another country. This page answers from Jagex Player Support and the Jagex rules, read on 28 September 2026. The short answer: Jagex does not support VPNs, proxies or hosting servers, and says they often break logins. Botting is against the rules, and Jagex publishes its ban counts every month. Several accounts are allowed, one person each.
Jagex support: switch VPNs and proxies off
The support page on connection problems opens with the rule. "We do not support or endorse the use of VPNs, proxies or hosting servers when connecting to our services". It explains that they "often interfere with access to our games, websites and the Jagex Launcher, which can cause issues such as failed logins". Its advice is to disable them before launching the game.
The Access Blocked page describes the security services in front of the website, the apps and the launcher. When one of them refuses a connection, the block is on the connection, not on your account. Its first advice is again to disable your VPN.
The page on "Too many login attempts from your address" links the error to busy periods and to your connection or IP range. It suggests waiting at least 30 minutes between attempts, and logging in through the Jagex Launcher or Steam. It also says to "avoid the use of popular common VPNs whenever possible". Third-party clients, it adds, "use a tunnelled connection service which can contribute to the issue".
Bots are banned, and Jagex counts the bans
The Rules of Old School RuneScape call macroing "botting". It means software or hardware doing for you what you should do yourself. The rules are blunt: "if you cheat, you are likely to be banned, even if it is the first time you have broken the rules". Sellers who call their software "ban proof" are wrong, in the words of Jagex: "This is not true".
The rules also list software that is not allowed. The list includes anything that "Tries to look at or change the communications between your device and our game worlds", and anything that "Gets around the normal steps used to log in".
Jagex Player Support publishes the numbers. Its statistics page for August 2026 and its report for 2025 show these figures for Old School RuneScape.

The anti-cheating team adds a note: "The average age of bots is falling as is the average level". Real-world trading, the sale of gold, items or account names for money, is barred too. The rules say that people who sell gold often get it by "Cheating or macroing, often known as ‘botting’".
Several accounts, one person each
The rules allow more than one account. "You may have as many game accounts as you like, but each account should only be used by the person who created it". Players "must not share, transfer or lend their account to anyone else", and "Nobody has our permission to sell accounts". Sharing an account also counts as cheating, because it gives an unfair advantage on achievements and the HiScores.
Jagex also restricts clients. A client feature that is not on its Approved Client list may not generate input to the game, as in software that moves the mouse or presses keys for you. Nor may it attempt "to communicate directly with our game worlds".

The limits of this page
We did not play OSRS, log in or run a client. Jagex Player Support shows our server a security check, so its articles come from its public help-center API. The rules come from the Markdown versions that the Jagex legal site offers for each page. The ban figures are the ones Jagex publishes, not our count. We found no Jagex text on membership prices by country, so this page does not answer that search. This page is due for a check by 28 December 2026.
