Free proxies won't hold up here.

Shared datacenter IPs get flagged and dropped fast. When it has to hold, gaming, streaming, accounts, you need mobile and residential IPs that read as a real device, from $0.44/GB, pay as you go.

Proxies for Helldivers 2 are shadowed by one of the loudest account controversies in recent gaming, so this page starts by settling it. In May 2024 Sony said Steam players would have to link a PlayStation Network account, then reversed the decision within days after an enormous backlash, part of which was that the game had been sold on Steam in countries where PSN is not available at all. As of 2025, PSN linking on Steam is optional, not required. So the thing people most often reach for a proxy to solve here, a PSN mandate, is not a live requirement, and a proxy would not solve it anyway.

What a proxy does touch is the Steam account and store side, the same as any Steam game, plus the PSN region rules if you choose to link an optional account. This page covers the PSN history, why the co-op match is not a proxy job, what a proxy genuinely does, and which type fits.

What proxies are best for Helldivers 2?

For keeping several Steam accounts off a shared address and reaching Steam on a network that blocks it, residential proxies pinned to your country and held sticky, or an ISP proxy (static residential) for an account you play daily. Datacenter only for the blocked-network case. No proxy type carries the co-op match, which is UDP, and none changes the permanent region of an optional PSN account. A proxy works on the Steam account and store side.

The PSN requirement, and why it was withdrawn

The history matters because it is why this page exists. On 3 May 2024 Sony announced that Steam players would need to link a PSN account, with dates in early May and June for new and existing players. The reaction was immediate and severe, and one of the sharpest points was that Helldivers 2 had been sold on Steam in many countries where PSN is simply not offered, so those players could not have created the account they were about to be required to have. The game was even delisted on Steam in a large set of those countries. On 6 May, Sony reversed course and said the mandatory linking update would not move forward.

The practical result today is that PSN linking on Steam is optional. A proxy has nothing to solve here, because there is no live requirement to route around, and even during the controversy a proxy could not have created a PSN account for a country PSN does not serve. If you do choose to link an optional PSN account for its bonuses, it follows the ordinary PSN rules, where the country is permanent and set at creation, covered in proxies for PlayStation. A proxy does not change those.

The co-op match is UDP, so a proxy carries the account side only

Helldivers 2 is a four-player co-op shooter, and its live match traffic runs over UDP, the protocol real-time games use. A proxy pulled from a list carries only TCP, so a proxy set on your system routes the Steam sign-in and store and leaves the match connecting direct from your real address. That means a proxy does not lower your ping and does not change your session, which is built from the players you are matched with rather than a region you pick. The game side is closed to a proxy, and the account side is where it works, the same split every co-op and multiplayer game shares.

What a proxy does help

The Steam account and store. Keeping more than one Steam account off a single shared address, so a flag on one does not reach the rest, and reaching Steam on a school or office network that blocks it. Regional store research, seeing how the game is priced elsewhere, is a browser behind a proxy, with payment and Steam's wallet region still governing the purchase, as covered in proxies for Steam. None of it touches the match or the optional PSN account's region.

Why people use proxies for Helldivers 2

  • Keeping accounts separate. More than one Steam account off a shared address, on the web side.
  • Reaching Steam on a blocked network. A dorm or office block, routed on the web side. A free proxy handles this one.
  • Regional store research. How the game is priced elsewhere, a browser behind a proxy, with Steam's wallet region still deciding payment.
  • Solving a PSN requirement, which no longer exists. PSN linking on Steam is optional, and a proxy never created a PSN account for an unsupported country anyway.
  • Lowering ping or changing the match, neither of which a proxy does. The match is UDP and built from matched players.

Which proxy type fits Helldivers 2

Residential proxies are IPs on real home connections, pinned to your country and held sticky, so a Steam sign-in reads as an ordinary player. New to the category? what is a residential proxy covers where the addresses come from.

ISP proxies are static residential, one fixed address for an account you play daily.

Datacenter proxies are the cheap tier a login treats with suspicion, useful only for reaching a blocked page.

Mobile proxies are carrier IPs many handsets share; residential already clears what matters, so they are overkill.

How to set it up

The account side is a browser job; the game is not a proxy job. Set a sticky residential or ISP proxy in a browser for Steam account work and sign-ins, one profile per account, matched to your country; our FoxyProxy guide covers the quick route and antidetect browser proxy setup covers several accounts. Verify any exit first with the proxy checker.

Account side (one sticky IP per account, in your country):
  main            ->  ISP, held
second account -> residential sticky, held

PSN linking on Steam is optional; a proxy does not change PSN's region rules.

How many IPs, sticky versus rotating

One sticky address per account, in your country, held indefinitely; there is no throughput or rotation case, because the match never rides a proxy. Helldivers 2's account traffic is small, so you pay for addresses, not gigabytes, and our pricing is pay-as-you-go with a balance that does not expire.

Free versus paid for Helldivers 2

A free proxy can get Steam through a school or office filter, and when it dies you just grab another. The free proxy list refreshes every few minutes across 100+ countries, and you can vet any entry in the proxy checker first. Never sign into a Steam account through a free proxy: it is a datacenter address that draws a Steam Guard check, dies within minutes, and passes your login through an operator you do not know; the mechanism is in are free proxies safe. Paid residential at $0.44/GB pay-as-you-go with no KYC covers account work, and ISP addresses at $2.70/IP suit an account you keep.

Where a proxy stops and Arrowhead starts

On Helldivers 2 a proxy works on the Steam account and store: it keeps accounts off a shared address, reaches Steam on a blocked network, and researches a region's price. It does not carry the UDP co-op match or lower ping, and it does not solve a PSN requirement, because PSN linking on Steam is optional and a proxy never created a PSN account for an unsupported country. If you link an optional PSN account, its permanent region follows the ordinary PSN rules a proxy does not touch.

For reaching Steam on a blocked network, start free with the free proxy list and the proxy checker. For the accounts you keep, one ISP address each, or clean residential at $0.44/GB pay-as-you-go held sticky, is what holds. Play the co-op straight, keep each account on its own address, and treat the PSN question as the settled, optional thing it now is.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a PSN account for Helldivers 2 on Steam, and does a proxy help?
As of 2025 you do not. Sony announced in May 2024 that Steam players would have to link a PSN account, then reversed the decision days later after a backlash, partly because the game had been sold in countries where PSN is not available. So PSN linking is optional on Steam, and a proxy is not needed to satisfy a requirement that no longer stands. A proxy touches the Steam account and store side, not a PSN mandate that was withdrawn.
Can you play Helldivers 2 through a proxy?
The Steam account and store, yes; the co-op match, no. Helldivers 2 is a co-op shooter whose live match traffic is UDP, which a proxy pulled from a list cannot carry, so a proxy routes the sign-in and store and leaves the match connecting direct. A proxy does not lower your ping and does not change your session, which is matched to other players rather than a region you pick.
What does a proxy do for Helldivers 2?
The ordinary account-side things: keeping several Steam accounts off a shared address, researching how the game is priced in another region, and reaching Steam on a network that blocks it. If you choose to link an optional PSN account, the PSN region rules apply, and those are the same permanent-region rules that govern any PSN account, which a proxy does not change.
What proxy type fits Helldivers 2?
For account separation and reaching Steam on a blocked network, residential proxies pinned to your country and held sticky, or an ISP proxy (static residential) for an account you play daily. Datacenter only for the blocked-network case. The match is UDP, so nothing carries it, and the PSN region rules are not something a proxy touches.
Was Helldivers 2 really pulled from sale in some countries?
Yes. When Sony briefly required PSN linking, the game was delisted on Steam in a large number of countries where PSN is not offered, because players there could not have made the required account. Sony reversed the linking requirement, but the episode is why the PSN-and-region question follows Helldivers 2 around. A proxy does not resolve a PSN availability question; a PSN account, where one is even possible, is registered to a supported country.
