Most people who search for a Facebook Marketplace proxy want one of three things. They want to list in a city where they do not live, to run several selling accounts, or to scrape listings. This page answers from the Facebook Terms of Service, the Meta Automated Data Collection Terms and the Facebook robots file, read on 28 September 2026. The short answer: Facebook asks each person for one account of their own, with accurate information about themselves. It bars collecting data by automated means without its permission. Scraping Marketplace needs the express written permission of Meta, and even then only for narrow uses.
One account, your own name, accurate details
The Facebook Terms of Service took effect on 1 January 2025. Their section on who can use Facebook lists what each person commits to.

In the words of the terms: "Create only one account (your own) and use it for personal purposes". You may not "transfer your account to anyone else (without our permission)". A second selling account on another address is still a second account. A bought account is a transferred one.
Business sellers have one more step. The terms say that using Facebook "for commercial or business purposes, such as buying ads, selling products" means you must agree to the Meta Commercial Terms.
Scraping Marketplace
The terms are plain on scraping. "You may not access or collect data from our Products using automated means (without our prior permission)". The ban holds "regardless of whether such automated access or collection is undertaken while logged-in to a Facebook account". The terms even use our word: you may not "proxy, request, or collect Product usernames or passwords".
The Facebook robots file opens with the same rule. "Collection of data on Facebook through automated means is prohibited unless you have express written permission from Facebook". It points to the Meta Automated Data Collection Terms, in force since 7 October 2024. Those terms say you "will not engage in Automated Data Collection without first obtaining Meta’s express written permission". Accepting them is not that permission. With permission, the collected data may serve only these uses:
- Results in your own search engine.
- Previews of Meta links shown to your users.
- Other uses that Meta approves in writing.
Selling or licensing the data is barred.
What our server got
On 28 September 2026 our server in the United States sent six requests to Facebook and Meta pages. The terms, the commerce policies, the Marketplace help and Marketplace itself each came back with HTTP 400 and an empty error page. So did the commerce policies on transparency.meta.com. The robots file answered. We read the terms and the Automated Data Collection Terms through copies in the Internet Archive.

The limits of this page
We did not log in, list an item or scrape Marketplace. Facebook answers our server with an error page, so the terms come from Internet Archive copies of 5 and 24 September 2026. The Marketplace help and the commerce policies did not open, and their archive copies hold no text. So this page does not describe how Marketplace sets the location of a listing, or what the commerce policies add. This page is due for a check by 28 December 2026.
