Most people who search for a GasBuddy proxy want its station prices in bulk. They want to watch competitors, study a region or feed an app. This page answers from the GasBuddy Terms of Service, its help center and the official US price sources, read on September 28, 2026. The short answer: the terms forbid scraping, building a database from the site and getting around its protection. For averages, the US Energy Information Administration and AAA publish prices for free. For station-level data, GasBuddy offers fuel retailers a dashboard through Business Pages.
What the GasBuddy terms forbid
The Terms of Service for the USA took effect on April 24, 2026. Their list of prohibited conduct covers each step of a scraper.

One line bars scraping or downloading "fuel price or other data" with any tool, "including automated scripts, spiders, robots, crawlers, data mining tools or the like". Another bars anyone who would "create a database by systematically downloading and storing" content from the site. A third bars any attempt to "avoid, bypass, remove, deactivate, impair, descramble or otherwise circumvent any technological measure" that protects it. Data from the site may not be forwarded without "the prior written consent of GasBuddy", and nothing on it may be exploited "for any commercial purpose". The rewards terms of June 30, 2026, add that no one may use "automated systems, scripts, macros, bots" to take part in its programs.
Where GasBuddy prices come from
GasBuddy prices are reports, not feeds from the stations. Its help center says they are "primarily gathered from volunteer spotters, including our everyday GasBuddy members". Reports from the app count for more than reports from the website, because the app knows where the reporter stands. A visitor who is not signed in only fills a gap: those prices show only when a station has no current price.
GasBuddy puts the scale on its business page: 150 thousand retail locations in the US and Canada, 3 billion fuel price reports so far, and 12 million monthly active users. PDI, which bought GasBuddy in April 2021, called this "crowd-sourced gas pricing information". So a price comes with an age and a reporter, and it can be wrong. The help center asks users who see a wrong price to report the right one.
The terms also bar "false or misleading User Content". The Top Spotters ranking only counts reports made at the station, with location services on.
Official sources for average prices
For averages, nothing needs scraping. The US Energy Information Administration releases gasoline and diesel prices every week. Its table covers the US, its regions, several states such as California and Texas, and cities such as Chicago and Seattle. The latest release was on September 22, 2026, and the next is due on September. 29 The data is free through the EIA API, which asks for a registration and a key.
AAA publishes national and state averages every day. The page we read on September 28, 2026, showed a national average of $4.4798. Neither source gives prices station by station, which is the one thing GasBuddy has.

Station-level data, the licensed way
Station prices are GasBuddy content, and GasBuddy offers them to the trade. It documents no public API: a search of its help center for "api" returns no article. Its Business Pages product gives fuel retailers "real-time big data in an easy-to-use dashboard". The page lists competitor benchmarking and gas price charts, and station owners can update their own prices there. If a business needs station prices, the first step is to ask GasBuddy, since the terms require written consent to pass data on.
What our server got
On September 28, 2026, our server in the United States got the GasBuddy home page and terms page with status 200. The help center web pages showed it a Cloudflare check, "Just a moment...", with status 403. The help center API answered, and that is how we read the articles. This page does not show how to get past a check, and the terms forbid it.

We did not scrape GasBuddy, log in, report a price or use its app. The help center web pages show our server a check, so its articles come from its public help-center API. The scale figures are the ones GasBuddy and PDI publish, not our count. We did not ask GasBuddy what Business Pages costs or which data it includes. This page is due for a check by December 28, 2026.
