Most people who reach this page search for a "Diablo 2 proxy". The phrase means different things, and some of them are not about networks at all. This page sorts them out and checks each against the Blizzard rules. The short answer: Blizzard asks players to turn proxies off. Its EULA rules out the connection tools, bots and private servers the phrase usually points to.
What people mean by a Diablo 2 proxy
The search returns five kinds of pages, and the Blizzard rules cover each one.

What Blizzard says about proxies
The Blizzard support article on proxy settings opens with a warning: "Using a proxy may cause connection, installation, or patching issues". It then shows how to turn the proxy off in Windows and macOS.
A second article covers the proxy error on public networks. On a school, hotel or office network, Blizzard tells players to "contact the network administrator to make sure their proxy is set up properly". The live support site loads its articles by script, so we read both in archive copies from 2025.
Proxies for online play
Some sellers promise lower ping on Battle.net. One page says its proxies help "keep your ping low", with no measurement behind it. Another is more careful: "Many players see steadier latency rather than a lower absolute ping".
Either way, the game has to be routed through the proxy, and that takes a tool. The Blizzard EULA, last revised on March 21, 2024, bars "any connection using third-party programs or tools not expressly authorized by Blizzard". That covers the Proxifier guides that rank for this search.
Private servers and emulators
Some results for "diablo 2 proxy" are private server projects. Some are forum tutorials for running a Diablo II server on PvPGN; one is a compatibility layer between a modern client and such a server.
The EULA rules them out in two places. It bars "any connection to any unauthorized server that emulates, or attempts to emulate, the Platform". It also bars anyone who would "intercept, emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Blizzard in any way, for any purpose". Its examples include unauthorized play over the internet.
Bots and shared accounts
A proxy per bot is a common reason for these searches. The EULA defines bots as "any code and/or software, not expressly authorized by Blizzard, that allows the automated control of a Game". It bars them together with cheats and hacks. It also says you "cannot share the Account or the Login Information with anyone".
Playing with friends in another region
Blizzard has a feature for this in the games that offer it. The EULA calls it Global Play, which "allows you to play with players who are outside of the region associated with the Account that you have registered". No proxy is involved.
