Replika has the longest regulatory record of the companion apps, and many summaries leave out its middle. The Italian data protection authority limited it in February 2023, suspended that limit on conditions in June 2023, and fined its maker in 2025. On 28 September 2026, Apple listed the iPhone app in 42 of the 44 App Store storefronts we checked, Italy among them. Below are the record with dates, the prices, how Replika takes a proxy, and what its terms say about one.

The regulator tells the middle of the story itself. Its 2025 decision recounts that "by decision No. 280 of 22 June 2023", it chose to suspend the February limit, "provided that the controller" adopted a set of measures. They included an updated privacy notice for users in Italy and an age gate on every registration page. Luka answered in July 2023 that it had complied. The notice would be shown to Italian users "upon reactivation of the service", it wrote.
The fine looks back at February 2023. The Garante found that "as at 2 February 2023, the US company had failed to identify the legal basis for the data processing operations carried out through Replika". It also found the age check in use in 2025 still deficient "in several respects". We found no Garante act on Replika after April 2025. We did not test an account from Italy, and a store listing is not the same as an account that works.
Where the apps are listed today
We asked Apple directly: one request per storefront to the public App Store lookup service, 44 storefronts, from our own server on 28 September 2026. No account and no app were involved. Apple listed the iPhone app in 42 of them, Italy included, and returned no listing for Bangladesh or China. On Google Play in the US, "Replika: My AI Friend" had been updated on 22 September 2026.
The stores disagree on age. Apple rates the iPhone app 18+ on its store page, and Google Play rates the Android app Teen. The Replika terms settle it for users: "If you are under 18, you are not authorized to use the Services, with or without registering".
What it costs
Replika sells four tiers: Free Use, Pro, Ultra and Platinum. Its help center says that "The cost of any subscription program is shown in the app on the subscription screens and in the relevant store". On the US App Store on 28 September 2026, Apple listed these in-app purchases. It does not say which subscription is Pro and which is Ultra.

Ultra is sold as an annual plan, and its features are only in the mobile app. Free Use costs nothing, but Replika says access to it may be denied at its discretion.
How Replika takes a proxy
Replika documents no proxy setting of its own: its help center returns nothing for "proxy". The route depends on where you use it.

On the web, Replika runs at my.replika.com, and Chrome uses the proxy of the system it runs on. The Chromium documentation adds two limits. First: "No authentication methods are supported for SOCKSv5 in Chrome". Second, Chrome ignores a user name and password typed into the system settings: "Proxy authentication will instead go through the ordinary flow to find credentials". In Chrome, then, use an HTTP line, and type its user name and password when Chrome asks. Our Chrome guide shows where the settings live.
On a phone, the proxy goes into the settings of one Wi-Fi network, so it never covers mobile data. An iPhone takes a server, a port and an optional user name and password. Android takes a host and a port with no password. Apps that use neither of its two built-in HTTP stacks have to read the setting themselves. We did not install Replika, so we cannot say whether its apps honor the setting. Our iPhone and Android guides walk through the screens.
The http form of our lines fits all three. Where there is nowhere to type a password, as on Android, a Residential Premium plan lets up to 150 addresses connect without one.
If Replika stops working behind a proxy, its support has written the first step already. It says VPNs and ad blockers "can sometimes block" the connection of the app to its servers, and it asks you to turn them off for a while. Do the same with a proxy. If Replika works without it, the proxy was the cause.
What the terms say about proxies
Replika put its position in writing. Its terms, last updated on 30 March 2026, say: "If you are blocked by Replika from accessing the Services (including by blocking your IP address), you agree not to implement any measures to circumvent such blocking (e.g., by masking your IP address or using a proxy IP address)". The same terms keep the service "for your personal use only", and they forbid data mining, robots and scraping.
That settles the proxy question for a block Replika placed: a proxy against it breaks the terms, and we do not sell for it. If Replika blocks your country, that is a block Replika placed too. A block on a school or office network is the rule of whoever runs that network, and we give no steps for getting around it either.
One question needs no proxy at all. Replika lets you "create multiple Replika accounts, as long as each one is registered with a different email address". On a phone, each account also needs its own store account, because a subscription activates "on one account per store ID".
What an IP address changes, and what it does not
Replika reads more than your country. Its privacy policy lists the "browser, IP address, device and cookie identifiers, language settings, mobile device carrier, and general location information such as city, state, or geographic area". Account records hold identifiers "that include country, timezone, type and ID of the device from which the account operates". The policy does not say how Replika uses them to decide who may use an account.
Our own server, a datacenter address in the US, got the ordinary pages of replika.com and of the web app, with no challenge and no sign of Cloudflare in the reply. The help center was different: it answered with a Cloudflare challenge page. That is one address at one moment, and it says nothing about signing in.
Where a proxy fits
A proxy fits when you choose to route your own traffic through one. That covers privacy on public Wi-Fi, a company that sends its devices through its own proxy, and the same exit every day for your own account. Our residential lines start at $0.44 per GB, and Premium, with city and ISP targeting and password-free access for allowed addresses, starts at $1.00 per GB. The free proxy checker shows which country an address reports before you rely on it. Free proxies are the wrong tool for a logged-in companion account, for the reasons in are free proxies safe.

What this page does not cover
We did not install Replika, under our rule against running third-party software on our workstation, so we did not see whether its apps follow a phone proxy. We used no account and no exit in Italy, so we cannot say whether an account works there today. Apple names the subscriptions by period, not by tier. We will check the record and the listings again by 28 December 2026.
