The short answer is that Character.AI needs no proxy. It has no API to route through one, and its terms name a proxy IP address as a forbidden way around a block. This page shows those rules in its own words, what the address does and does not decide there, and what its edge answered our own server.
What the terms say
The Character.AI terms, last updated on 27 August 2025, mention a proxy exactly once: "If you are blocked by us from accessing the Services (including by blocking your IP address), you agree not to implement any measures to circumvent such blocking (e.g., by masking your IP address or using a proxy IP address)".
Three more lines bear on proxies. Users may not use "data mining, robots, scraping or similar automated data gathering or extraction methods." They may not "try to evade any technological measure designed to protect the Services". And they may not reverse engineer the service. We give no steps around a block or a bot check.

None of these is the address. The Waiting Room exists "to manage peak loads", in the words of the help centre. Unlimited messaging stays on every plan, including free, and slow mode depends on the plan. Age assurance runs on all accounts, with a model built in-house and third-party tools, Persona among them. Its help articles name no location, country or IP address.
Two meanings of proxy
Many searches for a Character.AI proxy mean the Janitor AI kind: a model address that another chat front end connects to. Character.AI offers nothing of that kind: its help centre says it does not currently have an API.
The unofficial wrappers fill the gap in their own way. PyCharacterAI calls itself "an unofficial library made by an enthusiast who has no relation to the CharacterAI development team", built by finding endpoints through a reverse proxy. It runs on a token from your account, and it warns: "Anyone with your tokens has full access to your account!" The terms forbid reverse engineering the service, so we do not help set that up, through a proxy or otherwise.
What the edge answered our server
character.ai sits behind Cloudflare. On 27 September 2026 our server, a datacenter address with no proxy in between, asked for three pages.

The homepage came back as the Cloudflare block page, with HTTP 403. The terms page opened, and the help centre answered with a challenge. The edge judges page by page, and a datacenter address fared badly. The block page says what to do: email the site owner and include the Ray ID it shows. It does not suggest another address, and the terms rule that out.
Where a proxy is still ordinary
Some networks send all traffic through a proxy: a company egress, or a privacy setup on a network you do not trust. On those, Character.AI is one more site, on the web or in its iOS and Android apps. Browsers and phones keep that setting at system level, and our guides for iPhone, Android and Chrome show where. Our lines are HTTP or SOCKS5 with a user name and password, and residential traffic starts at $0.44 per GB. If the site blocks the address, the rule above applies: write to Character.AI, and do not route around it.

What this page does not cover
We read the Character.AI terms, help centre and blog, and asked its edge three questions from our server. One address on one day is thin evidence, and the edge may answer another address, or another day, differently. We did not run the Character.AI apps, under our rule against third-party software on our workstation. We will check again by 27 December 2026.
