Most searches that reach this page ask whether a proxy or a VPN works in Dead by Daylight, or what proxy camping means. This page answers from Dead by Daylight Support, the Behaviour Interactive terms and the Steam store, read on 28 September 2026. The short answer: support tells players to switch proxies off, because a proxy can break launching and updating. Bans follow the account to every platform and to its equipment. Proxy camping is a gameplay term about the hook.
Support says to switch proxies off
Dead by Daylight Support has an article on proxies, last edited in March 2024. It warns that "using a proxy server may result in unwanted connection and installation errors when trying to launch or update Dead by Daylight". It adds that malware can switch a proxy on without the player knowing it.
The fix it gives is short. Press Windows key and R, type inetcpl.cpl, open Connections, then LAN settings. There, clear the box "Use a proxy server for your LAN". If you never set a proxy up yourself, support suggests a virus scan.
The general network guide points the same way. It lists a wired connection, a speed test, a router restart and a DNS flush. It also suggests changing the NAT type to 1, Open, and checking that no firewall blocks the game. It ends with the proxy advice again: "attempting to disable any proxies you have may also help with your connection". The NAT FAQ explains the types: "Ultimately, an Open/Type 1 NAT will provide the best connection quality".
VPNs and the in-game store
Support also names the VPN once, in the article about Auric Cells that never arrived. It asks you to "ensure that you did not use a VPN during the acquisition of your Auric Cells". The reason is that a VPN "can alter the price of Auric Cells and occasionally cause the acquisition to fail".
Bans follow the account and its equipment
The Behaviour Interactive terms, last revised on 6 June 2023, spell out the reach of a ban. It "shall be valid on all Platforms on which the Account or Single Account is connected and/or the equipment linked to such Account or Single Account". The same terms say your IP address "may be stored in our records" when you play.
The support page on game bans, last edited in January 2026, sets the scale for temporary bans.

Temporary bans run from 48 hours to 1 week, then 1 month, then permanent. They "can not be appealed". A permanent ban can be appealed through a support ticket. Players with several permanent bans "could also see access revoked on their other accounts". The page also says: "We do not ban for the use of communication apps."
The terms bar the tools behind most of these bans. You may not use "“auto” software programs, “macro” software programs or other “cheat utility” software program or applications". You may not "interfere with, hack into or decipher any transmissions to or from the servers" either.
The anti-cheat
Steam lists Easy Anti-Cheat on the store page of Dead by Daylight, with the label Uses Kernel Level Anti-Cheat. Support also published a FAQ in August and September 2026 for a test of Denuvo Anti-Cheat. It says the game "will automatically disable Denuvo Anti-Cheat after the test".
Proxy camping is a gameplay term
Proxy camping has nothing to do with network proxies. It is about Killers who stay near a hooked Survivor. Support lists camping among the reports it does not ban for, with one exception. A Survivor face-camped by the same Killer "repeatedly for multiple games" falls under griefing, and that is reportable.
The game also counters camping on its own. Patch 9.3.0, published in November 2025, made the Anti-Facecamp meter fill faster the longer a Killer stays near the hook. The same patch set the detection range of the zone back to 16 meters, from 20.
