SOCKS4 proxy checkertest any SOCKS4 proxy, free
Paste or drop a list and this tool opens a real SOCKS4 handshake through every proxy and relays a live request. You get working or dead per line, plus anonymity, country, network and speed, streaming in as each answers. No account, no install.

The test
A real SOCKS4 tunnel, not just an open port
An open port is not a working proxy. The only honest SOCKS4 test is to complete the handshake and relay a real request, which is what this does for every line you paste.
01
Open the SOCKS4 tunnel
We open a real SOCKS4 handshake through your proxy to a live endpoint, exactly as any SOCKS4 client would, on a raw socket rather than a shortcut.
02
Relay a real request
Through that tunnel we reach an endpoint we control, so a proxy that opens the port but never actually forwards traffic is caught rather than passed.
03
Read the whole profile
Working or dead, plus anonymity, country, network and latency, streaming in per line as each proxy answers.
The short answer
What SOCKS4 is,and what it is not
SOCKS4 is the oldest tunnel still in wide use. Knowing its three limits tells you in a sentence whether a SOCKS4 list is enough for your job or whether you needed SOCKS5.
SOCKS4 in short
A bare TCP tunnel
SOCKS4 carries any single TCP connection, which is more than an HTTP proxy can do and is the whole reason it still exists.
No authentication
SOCKS4 has no username or password, so a SOCKS4 proxy is open to anyone who has the address. The SOCKS4a variant adds domain-name support, still without a login.
No IPv6, no UDP
SOCKS4 predates both. For IPv6 targets, remote DNS, or UDP relay, you need SOCKS5, which is what most people should reach for now.
Questions
SOCKS4 proxy FAQ
The things people actually ask about SOCKS4, answered against what the checker does. If yours is not here, the live chat on this page reaches the people who run the network.
What is a SOCKS4 proxy checker?
A tool that tests whether a SOCKS4 proxy actually works. This one opens a genuine SOCKS4 handshake through each proxy, relays a real request, and reports whether it connected, how fast, where it exits, which network owns it, and how much it leaks. Free, no account.
How do I check a SOCKS4 proxy?
Paste it above and run the check. The tool is set to probe SOCKS4 only, so it opens a real SOCKS4 tunnel rather than pinging the port, and confirms the proxy relays traffic. You get a working or dead verdict with the full profile behind it.
What is the difference between SOCKS4 and SOCKS5?
SOCKS5 is the newer version and does more: it supports username and password authentication, IPv6, remote DNS, and UDP relay, none of which SOCKS4 can do. SOCKS4 is a plain TCP tunnel with no login. If you have a SOCKS5 list, use the SOCKS5 proxy checker instead, which probes that protocol directly.
Does SOCKS4 support authentication?
No. SOCKS4 has no username and password mechanism, so a SOCKS4 proxy is open to anyone who knows the address. If you need an authenticated proxy that stays yours, you want SOCKS5. This checker still accepts every format you paste and simply ignores credentials on a SOCKS4 line.
Should I use SOCKS4 or SOCKS5?
SOCKS5, unless you have a specific reason not to. It does everything SOCKS4 does and adds authentication, IPv6, remote DNS and UDP. SOCKS4 is worth checking when a source only gives you SOCKS4 proxies, which is exactly what this page is for.
After the check
Want proxies that stay up?Stop re-testing free lists.
A free SOCKS4 list is a snapshot that decays from the moment it is posted. If you need addresses that keep working, and probably with the auth and features SOCKS4 does not have, the fix is a clean pool.
The upgrade
Residential proxies
$0.44per GB, and the balance never expires
Clean pools with city-level targeting and sticky sessions, running on the same network that just probed your list. You stop re-checking a file every morning, because the addresses are not shared out from under you.
Elsewhere on HProxy
Free proxy list
Thousands of live residential, datacenter and mobile IPs, verified around the clock. Something to test.
Datacenter and ISP
Dedicated IPs priced per address rather than per gigabyte, for work that needs a stable, fast exit.
Mobile proxies
Carrier IPs for the targets that treat everything else as a bot.
API and docs
The same checker and the same pools, wired straight into your own code.
