What happened to LunaProxy.com, and what to use instead

LunaProxy.com, a residential proxy shop, went dark in early 2026 and has not come back. The archive's last copy of its homepage dates from 3 January 2026. On 28 January Google's Threat Intelligence Group named "Luna Proxy" among brands it said were controlled by the actors behind the IPIDEA proxy network, and on 5 March the registry set lunaproxy.com to "client hold", a status that takes a name out of the DNS. When we looked again on 14 October 2026, the DNS still held no record of the name. This page follows the last months, explains the hold and lists what a former customer can still do. The last months, in order

The shop traded as usual to the end. Its homepage of 1 October 2025 offered new users "5GB for $6" and residential traffic at $0.77 a GB. The archive also kept two addresses of that homepage carrying Bing advertising tags, "utm_source=bing" and "utm_medium=cpc", captured on 25 September and 23 October 2025. By 3 January 2026 the headline had dropped to $0.65 a GB, unlimited residential proxies were down to "Just $60/day" with "Up to 25% Off", and a new line on the page read "Get up to $50 for the best reviews".

The archive holds no copy of the homepage after 3 January 2026. The last page of the site it kept is the privacy policy, captured on 24 January, four days before Google's post.

What Google said it did

Google's Threat Intelligence Group published its account on 28 January 2026. Two of the steps it lists concern web addresses: legal action against "domains used to control devices and proxy traffic through them", and legal action against "the domains used to market IPIDEA's products, including proxy software and software development kits, across their various brands". Its list of file indicators, the fingerprints security tools use to recognise a program, includes one labelled "Luna Proxy Client". Two days later a shorter post on Google's main blog said: "We disrupted IPIDEA by taking down their online storefront and took them to court".

Neither post names a court or a case number, and neither gives a date for any single domain. Our company page records what we searched in US court files and what we found.

What "client hold" means

ICANN, the body that coordinates domain names, describes the status in plain words: client hold "tells your domain's registry to not activate your domain in the DNS and as a consequence, it will not resolve". It adds: "It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes, non-payment, or when your domain is subject to deletion." Client statuses are set by the registrar, for lunaproxy.com Aceville Pte. Ltd., and the record does not say who asked for this one.

Verisign's record dates the change to 03:01:21 UTC on 5 March 2026. The record of piaproxy.com, a sister brand, switched to the same status nine seconds later. ipidea.io followed on 12 August 2026, and its record now points at name servers called blockedforabuse.pleasecontactsupport.com. The registration of lunaproxy.com runs until 26 August 2027, so the name stays reserved while nothing under it works.

On 14 October 2026 Cloudflare's public resolver answered "NXDOMAIN", no such domain, when we asked for the address, the name servers and the mail servers of lunaproxy.com. Every name below it fails in the same way: the website, the support address support@lunaproxy.com, and any host under the name that a customer's script still points at.

If you were a LunaProxy customer

Your balance. The terms of 2024 and 2025 said: "If you need a refund or replacement service, please contact the official customer service email to apply". That mailbox sits under the held name, so a message to it cannot be delivered. An older rule, in the privacy policy of April 2023, allowed a refund request "within 30 days of purchasing our services"; no later copy we read repeats it. If you paid by card, your card issuer is the place to ask now. Keep the receipt and the order e-mails.

The program and the extension. Google's list of file indicators names a program "Luna Proxy Client". If LunaProxy's Windows program or its Chrome extension is still installed, remove it: neither can reach the service any more. The extension had 1,000 users in the store's copy of 10 February 2026, and by 14 October 2026 its store address opened an empty page.

Your scripts. A script that still points at a LunaProxy host stops with a name error: ENOTFOUND in Node.js, Name or service not known from most Linux tools. Moving to another seller means changing the host, the port and the login together.

Your identity documents. The privacy policy that took effect in September 2025 asked users to "undergo static real-name authentication" and listed "ID card information collected for identity verification as required by law". Anyone who sent an ID has no working address left at which to ask for its deletion.

People still look for it

The searches show the customers' side of the ending. In February 2026, the month after Google's post, Google counted 720 searches for "luna proxy login", up from 480 in January; by August only 50 were left. Searches for "lunaproxy download" fell sooner, from 320 in January to 90 in February. In August 2026 the bare name "lunaproxy" was still searched 2,400 times.

What to use instead

LunaProxy's record gives a short list of things to check before paying the next seller:

What we could not find out

1. Who asked for the hold. The registry shows the status and its time; ICANN names disputes, non-payment and deletion as the usual reasons.
2. Whether any balance was refunded. The archive holds no notice to customers.
3. What became of customer data, identity documents included.
4. Whether the business goes on under another name.

We bought nothing and installed nothing from LunaProxy. We will look at these records again by 14 January 2027.
