Proxies for Argos: the Argos stock checker, and what argos.co.uk showed our server

Argos checks stock on every product page: enter a town or postcode and pick a store. Its app and store checkers do too. What argos.co.uk showed our server.

Argos has its own stock checker on every product page. Enter a town or postcode, select a store, and the page shows whether the item is in stock there. The Argos app has a Stock Check feature, and Argos stores have touchscreen and basic checkers. None of them needs a proxy. When our server in the United States asked argos.co.uk and its help site for pages, every answer was "Access Denied". Argos's terms forbid bots and scraping tools on its website and app without its written permission.

How to check stock at an Argos store

Argos's help page answers this in one line: "Simply click on the item you want and pop your postcode in the box on the right-hand side." Argos then shows whether the product is in stock, and whether it can be delivered or collected from your nearest store. You can check on the product page, or after you add the item to your trolley.

For the store you select, Argos shows on-screen icons, and its help page explains them:

casewhat Argos tells you
in stockThe item is in your selected store right now.
reserveYou pay online for store collection, and the store keeps the item for 7 days.
same dayThe store does not have it, but Argos can move it there for you to buy and collect that day.
later dateThe store does not have it, but Argos can get it there and gives the earliest date.
out of stockThe store has none, and Argos suggests another store nearby or delivery the same day.

When stock can be moved, Argos also shows the closest stores, and whether each has the item or how quickly it can get there. Some items are for delivery only, and Argos says so when you add one to your trolley. If you stay logged in, Argos remembers your last store.

In the Argos app

The app does the same check. Its listings on the App Store and Google Play describe a Stock Check feature: "You can easily check stock availability at your local stores with just a tap." The app is called "Argos - Shop Tech, Toys & More", and Argos Ltd publishes it. Version 5.62.0 came out on 29 September 2026. On 3 October 2026, the App Store listing showed about 626,000 ratings, and Google Play showed more than 10 million downloads.

Argos's help adds that the Argos Card has a separate app, called My Argos Card.

In an Argos store

Argos stores have their own checkers. The help page lists four kinds:

checkerwhat you enterwhat it tells you
touchscreen tabletA keyword, a product number or a category.Stock at your chosen store or another nearby store, or home delivery.
touchscreen stock-checkerA keyword, a product number or a category. How many are in stock, and how quickly an item can be ordered in.
basic checkerThe catalogue number. The quantity in stock in that store.
kioskThe catalogue number. The help page does not say.

The help page counts every Argos location as a store here, except collection points in other shops such as Sainsbury's. In a store, a pay@browse device lets you pay now for an item that is out of stock. You collect it once the store receives more stock.

Checking every store at once

Google's UK suggestions show that people want more than one store. They include "how to check argos stock nationwide" and "how to check stock in all argos stores". The help page we read describes your chosen store and the closest stores. It does not describe a search of every store.

Outside sites fill that gap, and the ones we read work by reading Argos's data. One third-party checker we read on 3 October 2026 offers a search of all national stores. Its own banner said that its connection to Argos was not working. Google's suggestions also include "argos stock checker not working". Argos's terms, below, bar automated collection from its website and app without its written permission.

When argos.co.uk shows Access Denied

We asked Argos for six pages from our server in St. Louis on 3 October 2026. They were the home page, robots.txt, and four help pages: the stock check, the app and two terms pages. Each answer was HTTP 403, titled "Access Denied", with a "Reference #18" number and a link to errors.edgesuite.net.

Our server sits in a data center in the United States. We did not test from an address in the UK or from a home connection. The test therefore cannot say whether Argos refused the country, the data center or something else in the request.

The Internet Archive meets the same refusal. Its copy of Argos's robots.txt from 1 May 2026 asks every crawler it does not name to stay out of only the /wishlist and /list/ pages. Yet Argos answered 8 of the archive's 12 newest captures of that file, from 26 January to 1 May 2026, with HTTP 403. The archive's newest capture of the terms is Argos's own Access Denied page.

Shoppers see the same page. In a Mozilla report of 24 July 2026, a Firefox user on Linux got it on argos.co.uk, and Mozilla's tester could not reproduce it. On 3 September 2026, another user wrote that it blocked them in Firefox 115 ESR, but not in Chrome on the same PC. Our guide to Access Denied, Reference #18 explains what the number means and what to try.

What Argos's terms say

Argos's terms say you can use its website and app "for your personal, non-commercial use". The copy we read is from 23 July 2026 and was last updated on 10 April 2026. Three of its rules matter here.

rulewhat the terms say
personal useThe website, app and content are for personal, non-commercial use only.
automated meansNo bots, scraping tools or similar technologies to copy, collect or analyse content, unless Argos has given prior written permission.
commercial useNo copying, scraping or republishing of any part of the site for commercial purposes without prior written consent.

The rule on automated means adds that this "includes using our content to develop or train artificial intelligence or machine-learning systems". Argos may suspend or cancel an account if someone seriously or repeatedly breaks the terms.

Some stock searches are not for a shopper's own trip. Google's suggestions for "argos stock checker" include "argos stock checker discord", "argos stock checker api" and "argos stock checker pokemon". The rule on automated means answers those searches, and this page gives no bot setup.

Tracking Argos prices

Some people look for an Argos price tracker, and Google's UK suggestions include "argos price tracker history". The app's listings name a Wishlist for saving items, and notifications of "the latest discounts and special offers". They name no price history. A tracker that collects Argos prices automatically falls under the same rule on automated means.

Where a proxy fits

For checking stock, a proxy does not fit: the product page, the app and the store checkers show stock near you. Argos refused our server in the United States, and we did not test whether an address in the UK changes that. We therefore make no claim that a proxy opens argos.co.uk. If argos.co.uk refuses you at home, start with our Reference #18 guide, not a proxy.

For other work where a proxy is allowed, our UK page lists the UK cities you can target, and what a residential proxy is explains the type. Our free proxy list and proxy checker cost nothing. Residential traffic without city targeting starts at $0.44/GB, and every plan is on our pricing page.

The limits of this page

We did not open the Argos app or visit a store, so the checks are described from Argos's help pages and app listings. We read the help pages in Internet Archive copies of 17 April 2026 and 8 May 2026, and the terms in a copy of 23 July 2026. That copy was last updated on 10 April 2026, and Argos may have changed its terms since. The archive's next capture of the terms, a minute later, was Argos's own Access Denied page. We sent six plain requests to Argos from one server, without a browser. Argos can change its site, its app and its terms at any time. This page is due for a check by 3 January 2027.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if Argos has something in stock?
Open the product on argos.co.uk or in the Argos app, enter a town or postcode, and select your nearest store. Argos then shows whether the item is in that store, can be moved there, or can be delivered to you.
Can I check Argos stock in every store at once?
The Argos help page we read describes a check of the store you choose and of the closest stores. It does not describe a search of every store. Outside sites offer national searches, and one we read said its link to Argos was not working.
Why does argos.co.uk show Access Denied?
The page carries a Reference #18 number and a link to errors.edgesuite.net. Our server in the United States got it for every page we asked for. In a Mozilla report, a shopper got it in Firefox but not in Chrome on the same PC.
Are Argos stock checker bots allowed?
No. The copy of Argos's terms we read, last updated on 10 April 2026, says you must not use any automated means, such as bots or scraping tools, to copy, collect or analyse content from its website or app without its prior written permission. This page gives no bot setup.
Do I need a UK proxy to check Argos stock?
No. The product page, the app and the checkers in Argos stores show stock at the stores near you. We did not test whether an address in the UK changes how argos.co.uk answers outside traffic.
