You cannot read a proxy's speed off its location or its latency. The only honest measure is to move real bytes through it and time them, which is exactly what this does.

Why it matters
When proxy speedactually decides the job
Speed matters for some work and barely registers for the rest. Knowing which one you are doing is what tells you whether a slow number is a problem or a non-issue.
Scraping at scale
Hundreds of pages a minute is a lot of bytes. A slow proxy caps your whole run no matter how many threads you throw at it, because the bottleneck is the pipe, not the CPU.

Logging in, checking a price, posting a form. These are tiny requests where latency, the round-trip time, decides how it feels, and a fast proxy with high latency still feels slow.

What is a good proxy speed?
It depends entirely on the job. For scraping text pages, even a few Mbps is plenty and latency matters more. For video, media or large downloads, you want tens of Mbps and up. A datacenter proxy can run hundreds of Mbps; a residential one is usually far slower, and for most anti-bot targets that is the correct trade.
Why is my proxy slow?
Usually one of three things. It is shared and overloaded, so you are queuing behind everyone else on the same endpoint. It is physically far away, so every byte makes a long round trip. Or it is a residential IP, where traffic really does traverse a home connection, which is slower by design and is what makes the address trusted.
Does latency or bandwidth matter more?
For small, frequent requests, latency wins: a proxy that transfers fast but answers slowly still feels slow on every login and form. For moving volume, bandwidth wins. This tool measures throughput; the main proxy checker reports latency, so between them you see both halves.
Which proxies are the fastest?
Datacenter and ISP addresses, by a wide margin, because the traffic runs on well-provisioned network links. Residential and mobile proxies are slower because they route through real consumer connections, and that is the whole point of them. If speed is what you need and residential trust is not, datacenter is the answer.
