Ninja Cloak no longer works. The address people remember, ninjacloak.com, still resolves, but every request has been redirected since March 2016 to a page on another site that describes the service in the present tense and gives you no way to use it. There is no address box on that page, no form, and nothing to submit. This is the record of when it stopped, what it was, and what a person looking for it today can use instead.
What Ninja Cloak was
The domain was registered on 23 January 2007. The oldest working capture the Internet Archive holds is from 15 April 2008, and the site described itself in one sentence:
Ninja Cloak is a free anonymous web based service. With Ninja Cloak you can browse your favorite web sites anonymously and even from behind a firewall with blocked ports.
That was the whole product. You opened the page at school, at work or on a library terminal, typed an address, and the site fetched it for you. A capture from 3 January 2014 still shows the option list a working web proxy of that era carried: an HTTPS mode described as harder to block, no cookies, remove scripts, no referrer.
When it stopped
The Internet Archive's index is precise about the change, because it records the status code of every capture. The last capture that returned an actual page is from February 2016, at about 4.8 kilobytes. Every capture from March 2016 onwards is a redirect.

The archive kept visiting the domain long after there was anything to keep. The bars stay tall through 2026 because a redirect is still a response.
The March 2016 capture is the useful one. Its archived response headers carry a 301 with the destination zophar.net/proxy, which is the same destination the redirect uses today, ten years later.
What the two addresses do now
We checked both names on 10 September 2026 from our own server in Germany.

The second address matters because it is the one old directories still list. Anyone following a proxy directory to Ninja Cloak lands on the copy rather than the original, and the copy has been parked for years.
Ninja Cloak is not unusual. We checked all 8,948 web proxies listed on the largest surviving proxy directory on 10 September 2026: 8,831 of those names no longer resolve at all, and not one of the 98 that still resolve served a working web proxy to us.
Why the search results do not say any of this
The pages that rank for the name are not checking it. Three of them belong to a single proxy seller, which publishes the same brand pitch on three separate addresses, none of which carries a test or a date. One is a reseller listing that offers to sell you proxies for a target that stopped existing in 2016. One is a blog post from 2013 that describes the service in the present tense. One is a company-data profile that reports no status at all.
That is why the searches continue. The name is still typed 480 times a month worldwide as "ninja cloak proxy", and 1,900 times as the name on its own, according to Google's Keyword Planner on 10 September 2026. The demand outlived the service by a decade because nothing on the first page of results told anyone it had ended.
What to use instead
Use a list that is re-checked rather than a name someone remembered. Our free proxy list is re-verified every few minutes, and entries that stop answering fall off it instead of sitting there for ten years. If you have an address already, from an old bookmark or a directory like the one above, the proxy checker will tell you whether it still relays anything before you trust it with a page load.
Two honest limits apply to every free proxy, ours included. The addresses are shared, so the sites that care about proxy traffic have usually seen them before you arrive. There is no session persistence, so anything that requires a login tends to break halfway through. Free is the right tool for opening a blocked page, and the wrong tool for anything that has to work at a specific moment.
What this page cannot tell you
Why the operator stopped is not in the record. A dead page and a redirect show that something changed; they do not say whether the site was sold, handed to a friend, or simply switched off. We will not guess at a reason in public, and if you know what happened we would rather print your account than our speculation.
The gap between 2016 and 2019 holds only redirect captures, so there is no page content from those years to read. Registration dates can also change: ninjacloak.com is paid until January 2027 and ninja-cloak.info until March 2027, so both could change hands after that. We will check this page again by 1 January 2027.
