This is an obituary written from public records rather than gossip. Browseweb has stopped answering, and the registration and archive trail is the only honest account of it available.
When the lights went out
Three requests on 9 September 2026, https, www and http, all failed with ENOTFOUND. There is no server left behind that name.
Of 7 archived captures that actually loaded, the newest is January 2018. That is where the trail ends.
The final archived page
The last working capture is from January 2018. Its title read "BrowseWeb.net Proxy". Its search snippet read: "Unblock any website from anywhere. Browse facebook, youtube etc. from any country."
A third party kept that, which is why it is quotable. It records what was being claimed, and says nothing about whether the claims held up.
What they sold
The archive first captured a working page in May 2013.
The public record holds that much. It shows a company that was real and shipping, and nothing about how well.
We stop short of a cause deliberately. The registration and archive trail shows when things stopped and nothing about why, and the difference between those two claims is the difference between a fact and a defamation.
Others that stopped
Other shutdowns we hold the registration and archive trail for:
- What happened to Proxyforeu
- What happened to ProxyGo
- What happened to Proxygratis
- What happened to Proxyhouse
- What happened to Proxyit
- What happened to ProxyKnow
Where to go now
If you still have money or traffic sitting with them, the realistic options are a chargeback if the payment is recent enough for your card scheme, and a written record of what you paid for. Prepaid balances with a company that has stopped answering are rarely recovered any other way.
Choosing a replacement: weight the terms as heavily as the price. A balance that expires and a large minimum top-up are the two features that turn a shutdown into a real loss. Ours does neither, and residential starts at $0.44 per GB. That is our pitch, and the honest advice underneath it applies whoever you pick.
