Trivago is the one bright spot for free proxies in travel, which is a low bar it clears and not much more. We run a free proxy list and a verification engine, so we pointed 120 fresh free proxies at Trivago and counted, and it was reached by more of them than any other travel site in the test, twenty against zero for most. We pointed 120 free proxies at Trivago
On 24 August 2026, as part of a wider travel-site test, we took 120 HTTP proxies from our own free proxy list, each verified alive minutes earlier, and asked every one for a Trivago page.
Twenty of the 120 reached it, and only one was challenged. The other ninety-nine could not complete the request. Twenty reached is the best result of the twelve travel sites we tested, most of which returned real content to none of the 120.

Why Trivago is the exception
The reason Trivago stands out is its shape. Trivago is a metasearch, and the page a free proxy hits first is a landing page, lighter and less defended than an online travel agency's search results or a hotel chain's booking page. Where Booking.com, Expedia and Marriott challenged seventeen to twenty-four of our proxies, Trivago challenged exactly one. So the shared datacenter addresses free proxies come from get through more often on Trivago than anywhere else in travel, because there is less standing in the way at the front door.
Why it still is not enough
Two things keep Trivago's exception from being a free-scraping win.
Five in six still failed to connect. Ninety-nine of 120 proxies never completed the request. Even the most reachable travel site in the test worked for only one in six, because the free pool dies at the same rate regardless of the target.
Reaching the page is not reading the prices. Trivago's value is the comparison of several booking sites' prices for one hotel, and those load per platform and depend on the localized market, as we cover in proxies for Trivago. A free proxy that reaches the Trivago landing page has not thereby collected the comparison; it has just got through the least-defended door in travel. The usable-data rate is lower than the twenty-reached number suggests.
The free pool behind the result
The connection failures are the pool. Our free proxy data study, from 129M checks across 590K tracked proxies, finds the working free pool overwhelmingly on cloud networks, a few thousand alive at any moment, churning constantly. Trivago's lighter front door lets more of that pool through, but the pool itself is still short-lived and shared.
What free proxies are genuinely good for here
On Trivago specifically, a free proxy is more likely than usual to succeed at a throwaway, website-only check: seeing whether a Trivago platform loads from another country, or comparing at a glance before you pay to measure properly.
