To get an Australian IP, send your traffic through a proxy on a local internet provider's network. A residential proxy does it with an address from a home line, so local sites serve you what people in Australia see.
Three numbers matter before you buy. Telstra and Optus hold 43.6% of Australia's IPv4 space, which comes to 45.9 million IPs. Seller pools for the country reach 5% of that at most. And all 15 free proxies there that worked on October 26, 2026 had been flagged. Our residential proxies target Australia at $0.50/GB for one GB.
Which networks does an Australian IP come from?
APNIC, the internet registry for the Asia Pacific region, lists every block it gives out, with the holder's country. Its latest file, with records to October 24, 2026, lists 45,881,856 IPv4 addresses for Australia, in 9,879 blocks held by 2,757 holders:
Telstra holds 13,819,648 IPs and Optus 6,176,768 under two records. Then come iiNet, TPG, Vocus, AAPT and Vodafone, whose record names it a "Mobile Service Provider".
Not every address in the file serves homes. Public bodies rank among the largest holders. CSIRO, a research agency, holds 622,080 IPs, the Australian Defence Organisation 420,096 and the Department of Home Affairs 262,144. The ten largest holder records have 63.0% of the space, and 2,559 holders with 16,384 IPs or fewer share 6.1%.
Close to half of users there can use IPv6. APNIC Labs measured 47.9% as IPv6-capable in the 30 days to October 23, 2026, against 29.0% in October 2020.
How big are the Australian pools sellers advertise?
Small next to 45.9 million. We read five sellers' Australia pages through our server on October 26, 2026:
| Seller | Advertised | Of Australia's IPv4 |
|---|---|---|
| Shifter | 2.3 million+ | 5.0% |
| Oxylabs | 1,980,646 | 4.3% |
| Bright Data | 642,357 | 1.4% |
| DataImpulse | 55,328 | 0.12% |
Bright Data's page carries two counts: 642,357 in the title and 160,589 Australia IPs in the text, a quarter of the first.
Oxylabs' number covers residential, datacenter and mobile IPs together. DataImpulse counts 55,328 IPs over 30 days and 3,688 active at once. Decodo prints no count for the country.
A small share says little on its own, because government and research blocks sit in the same total. What matters for a job is the networks and cities you can reach. We do not publish our own pool size per country.
What can you check with an Australian IP?
The web as people in Australia get it. Google's help page notes that "IP addresses are roughly based on geography" and that location "helps to show you nearby results". From an Australian exit you see local search results, prices in Australian dollars and the ads that run there.
Ad checks are one such job. One search that found our site asked for a cheap way to run them in Australia. Residential Lite covers the country at the lowest rate, and Residential Premium narrows a check to one city. Our Australian proxies page lists 78 cities in 8 regions, among them Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and 68 networks. The lists date from October 9, 2026.
Sites keep their own rules when you arrive through a proxy. MaxMind, a detection vendor, flags residential proxies in a database that sites can license. Our guide to how websites detect proxies covers the other checks.
Why do free Australian proxies fail?
Since May 13, 2026, our free proxy tracker has logged 5,388 Australian IPs from public lists, and 3,541 worked at least once. On October 26, 2026, 15 were working:
Nine of the fifteen ran on datacenter networks, seven on Amazon alone. A cloud server can carry an Australian location, yet sites can still spot its network. Keep free proxies for tests. Our free proxy list for Australia shows the working ones.
How do you pay from Australia?
At our checkout you can pay by Visa or Mastercard from $10, or in crypto from $3. Our guide to buying proxies with crypto shows what each network charges to send a payment. Both land in one balance with no expiry date. We do not take PayPal; the payment options page lists every method.
How much traffic does an Australian job use?
About 380 full desktop pages per GB, at HTTP Archive's 2024 median of 2,652 KB a page (2,311 KB on mobile). Loading only the HTML of a page takes far less, so measure twenty of your own pages first.
Which one should you buy?
For most Australian jobs, buy Residential Lite with Australia as the country, at $0.50/GB for one GB and $0.44 per GB at volume. Free proxies lose: all fifteen working ones were flagged, and most ran on cloud networks. Choose Residential Premium when the job needs a city, a network or a sticky session of up to 24 hours. It costs $1.49/GB for one GB and $1.00 per GB at volume. Our residential proxies page has the full price list.
What this page could not check
- We tested no speed, success rate or block rate, on any network, ours included.
- We do not publish which Australian networks our own exits come from, or how many there are.
- APNIC's file counts IPs given out, which is neither the IPs in use nor a count of users. Government and research blocks sit in the same total.
- Seller pool numbers are what each page showed on October 26, 2026. We could not check what each one counts.
- The free proxy figures come from one day and one IP reputation check.
- We will check every number on this page again by January 26, 2027.
