Why mobile is the most expensive and still often the right call
A carrier assigns the same public address to thousands of real subscribers at once. That makes a mobile IP the hardest kind to act against: blocking it means blocking a slice of a mobile network, which sites are extremely reluctant to do. You are paying for that reluctance.
It follows that mobile is wasted on work that nothing is defending. If your target does not challenge a datacenter address, buying mobile is buying trust you had no need for.
Why the unit is a month
There is real hardware behind a mobile proxy sitting on a real carrier subscription, and that cost accrues with time rather than with traffic. Pricing it per gigabyte would mean pretending the underlying cost works differently than it does.
The practical effect is that mobile rewards continuous use. An endpoint you use every day for a month costs the same as one you use twice.
