If you are here because Smoothproxy stopped answering, the short version is that it is not you. The site is unreachable and has been for a while. The rest of this page is the evidence and the replacement.

When it went dark

We tried three routes to it on 9 September 2026 and all three failed (ENOTFOUND). Nothing is listening.

The Internet Archive holds 9 working captures, the last in March 2025. After that the crawler found nothing worth keeping, which is the closest thing to a date of death the record offers.

What the last capture shows

The final good capture, March 2025, carried the title "SmoothProxy - Fast, Reliable and Secure Proxy Service". Its headline read "Surf anonymously. Smooth and fast proxy servers.". The blurb under its search result said: "SmoothProxy provides fast, reliable and secure proxy services to protect your privacy and access blocked websites. Our network of global proxy servers keeps you anonymous."

Read it as the pitch rather than the product. Its value is that the Internet Archive holds it independently of us and of them, so anyone can check the quotation.

What was there

The archive first captured a working page in October 2023.

All of that is a record of what was published rather than of what worked. It is here because a reader who paid them deserves to see that the company was real and operating, which the archive settles.

Registration and expiry

The name was first registered on 26 October 2023 at NameCheap, Inc.. About 2 years, then, from first registration to now. It is paid up to 26 October 2026, so the name is held even though nothing sits on it. Registry data read 9 September 2026.

One limit worth stating plainly: none of the above explains why. A dead domain and an archive that stops are evidence of an ending, not of a cause, and we will not guess at one in public. If you know what happened, we would rather print your account than our speculation.

If you were mid-subscription, cancel any standing card authority first so it cannot be charged again, then check whether the payment is recent enough to dispute. Both are worth doing today rather than after the window closes.

What to look for next time: no expiry on the balance, no minimum commitment, and a price you can reach without a sales call. We meet all three, residential from $0.44 per GB, and so do several others. Measure on your target rather than taking anyone's word, including ours.

We re-checked the domain on 9 September 2026 over https, www and plain http. Nothing answered on any of them. That is evidence of a shutdown rather than proof of one, and it is the strongest evidence the public web offers.
What happened to Smoothproxy?
We do not know, and we will not guess in public. The record shows when the site stopped being captured and that it no longer answers. It says nothing about the reason, and every confident explanation of a small provider's shutdown that we have read traces back to a forum rumour.
Can I get my money back?
If the payment is recent enough to fall inside your card scheme's dispute window, a chargeback is usually the only realistic route once a provider stops answering. Cancel any recurring authority at your bank rather than on their site, and keep receipts and support threads as evidence.
What should I use instead of Smoothproxy?
Weight the terms as heavily as the price, because an expiring balance and a large minimum top-up are what turn a shutdown into a real loss. Whatever you shortlist, run a small paid test on your own target before moving volume, and keep prepaid exposure small until a provider has earned more.
