befreeproxy.com was a free web proxy that stopped in August 2019, when its domain registration expired. The name was registered again in October 2021. When we checked on 15 September 2026, the address sent a request on to a survey site, and Microsoft Defender removed the page it served as a trojan. Do not open it.
What the site was
A web proxy is a page where you type an address, and the site loads through the proxy's own server. The oldest copy of befreeproxy.com in the Internet Archive dates from 30 August 2014. It ran Glype, a web proxy script written in PHP, under the title "Glype proxy - Youtube Enabled!".
That first copy still asked visitors to tell their friends about another site, HiddenProxySite.com. By October 2015 the text used its own name. The page promised to unblock MySpace, Bebo, Facebook, YouTube, Orkut and Friendster, and it asked for an email address to send "fresh proxy sites daily".
Using it cost nothing. In December 2016 a Reddit user named befreeproxy.com as an example of a proxy site with banner ads on its landing page.
When it stopped
The archive captured the working proxy for the last time on 24 August 2019. Three days later, the same address showed a registrar notice: "This domain is expired."

Captures of the homepage fell from 34 in 2019 to 3 in 2020, and they have stayed at one to three a year since.
The address today
The registry shows the name was registered again on 25 October 2021, through Media Elite Holdings Limited. The record does not show who holds it. We checked the address on 15 September 2026 from our own machine, without a browser.
One request came back as a redirect to a survey site on another domain. A second request returned a small page, and Microsoft Defender deleted it as Trojan:HTML/Redirector.JBA!MTB. In Microsoft's naming, the first part is the type of threat and the second is its platform, here HTML.
Treat the address as unsafe. The website checker sur.ly still rates the domain "Safe" and shows a picture of the old proxy, so a safe rating on a checking site does not mean the address is safe today. If a bookmark or an old list points to befreeproxy.com, remove it.
Why old lists still send people there
A list of free proxy sites published in March 2025 still recommends befreeproxy.com as "Europe Proxy". Few people look for the name itself: Google Keyword Planner reported no measurable monthly searches for "befreeproxy" on 15 September 2026.
Where to go from here
Free web proxies rarely last. Two directories listed 25,903 of them since 2009, and 16 still worked when we checked every one on 12 September 2026.
A checked list is a better guide than a remembered name. Our free proxy list is re-verified every few minutes, and the proxy checker tests one address before you rely on it.
The limits of this record
The record shows when the site stopped, not why. No public statement names the operator or the reason, so this page does not guess. It also cannot say whether the 2021 registration has anything to do with the original operator.
Today's findings rest on two requests from one machine on one day. The registration term ends on 25 October 2026, so the next check is due on 26 October 2026.
