A German IP is an address from a German internet provider. Through a residential proxy you borrow one on a home line. German shops and search engines then treat your visit as local: euro prices, German results, German ads.
Germany has a few surprises. Deutsche Telekom holds 26.8% of the country's IPv4 addresses, and the second-largest holder is a car maker. Seller pools come to 5.0% or less of the 126.3 million addresses. Free proxies are mostly cloud machines: 85 of the 86 working on October 26, 2026 were flagged. Our residential proxies target Germany at $0.50/GB for one GB.
Which networks does a German IP come from?
RIPE NCC, the internet registry for Europe, lists every block it gives out, with the holder's country. Its file, with records to October 24, 2026, lists 126,279,808 IPv4 addresses for Germany, in 10,815 blocks held by 3,990 holders:
Telekom's two records add up to 33,786,880 addresses, one of them a Telekom Deutschland customer range. In second place sits Mercedes-Benz Group with 16,842,752, almost all in one old block that starts at 53.0.0.0. Vodafone Germany's backbone record, still under the Arcor name, and mediaways come next.
A German address in the registry can belong to a factory or a data center. Hetzner, the hosting firm, holds 3,482,880 and Siemens 2,119,424. Together, the ten largest records hold 59.5% of the German space.
Most German users can reach sites over IPv6. APNIC Labs measured 72.6% as IPv6-capable in the 30 days to October 23, 2026, against 49.1% in October 2020.
What do sellers' German pools amount to?
A few percent of the registry at most. These are the numbers on five sellers' Germany pages, read through our server on October 26, 2026:
| Seller | Advertised | Of Germany's IPv4 |
|---|---|---|
| Oxylabs | 6,264,823 | 5.0% |
| Shifter | 4,282,666 | 3.4% |
| Bright Data | 2,110,414 | 1.7% |
| SOAX | 1,110,960 | 0.88% |
| DataImpulse | 228,626 in 30 days | 0.18% |
Two counts sit on Bright Data's page: 2,110,414 proxy IPs in its title, 527,603 German IPs in its text. The second is a quarter of the first.
One page gives two counts. Oxylabs' headline says 6,264,823 IPs, while its own description says 3,579,899. DataImpulse breaks its figure down: 26,381 German IPs in a day and 12,271 online at once. Our own pool size per country stays unpublished.
What changes when you browse from a German IP?
Search results, prices and ads switch to the German versions. Google says your location "helps to show you nearby results" and that "IP addresses are roughly based on geography". Residential Lite covers Germany at the lowest rate. Residential Premium can pick one city. Our Germany proxies page lists 1,188 of them, among them Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Frankfurt am Main, with 217 networks.
None of that switches off a site's own checks. MaxMind, for one, sells an Anonymous IP database with a flag for residential proxies. Our guide to how websites detect proxies goes through the rest.
Why are free German proxies a dead end?
Most of them are servers. Since May 13, 2026, our tracker has logged 14,683 German addresses from public lists, and 4,207 worked at some point. The 86 that worked on October 26, 2026 broke down like this:
One hosting firm, Hetzner, carried 24 of them, and DigitalOcean, netcup, Contabo and Amazon many of the others. A cloud machine with a German location says nothing about a German household, and reputation lists know it. Test your code on free proxies and stop there. Our free proxy list for Germany shows the current ones.
How do you pay from Germany?
Card or crypto. A Visa or Mastercard payment starts at $10 and a crypto payment at $3, and both top up one balance that does not expire. The fees per crypto network are in our guide to buying proxies with crypto. PayPal is not available; our payment options page has the full list.
How much traffic does a German job need?
A median desktop page weighed 2,652 KB in HTTP Archive's 2024 Page Weight chapter, and a mobile page 2,311 KB. One GB therefore loads about 380 full desktop pages. Text-only requests stretch that far further, so weigh twenty pages of your own target before you buy.
Which one should you buy?
Most German jobs need only Residential Lite with Germany as the country, at $0.50/GB for one GB and $0.44 per GB at volume. Skip free proxies: 85 of 86 carried a flag. Pick Residential Premium for a city, one of the 217 networks or a sticky session of up to 24 hours. Premium costs $1.49/GB for one GB and $1.00 per GB at volume, and our residential proxies page has every tier.
What this page could not check
- We ran no speed, success rate or block rate test, on any network, ours included.
- Which German networks our own exits use, and how many, we do not publish.
- RIPE NCC's file counts addresses given out, which is neither the addresses in use nor a count of users.
- Seller pool numbers are what each page showed on October 26, 2026. We could not check what each one counts.
- The free proxy figures come from one day and one IP reputation check.
- We will check every number on this page again by January 26, 2027.
