Two things decide whether a proxy provider works for you, and neither appears on a pricing page: how the pool behaves against your specific target, and what happens to money you have paid but not spent.
Read this first if you want a VPN
Worth saying immediately: Betternet is a VPN and we are not a VPN company. A VPN encrypts everything your device sends and routes it through one tunnel. A proxy sends one app or one request through an address you choose, with the country and often the city under your control, and adds no encryption of its own.
That difference decides which one you want. Whole-device privacy on untrusted networks is the VPN job. Appearing to come from a particular place, at scale, with control over rotation and sessions, is the proxy job.
So: if you left Betternet because automation kept getting blocked, or because you needed a fixed address or a specific location, keep reading. If you left because of streaming, apps or price, a VPN comparison will serve you better than this page will.
What is on file for Betternet
You will find them at betternet.co.
There is no price in this comparison because we do not have one we can date and attribute. What follows instead is the set of questions that decide the cost once you do read their page.
Check the reachable rate, the minimum, the expiry terms and the failure billing, and date your note. A price without those four attached is not a price.
Their own description, read this week
On 9 September 2026 the site introduced itself as "VPN for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android".
What else that page states, without interpretation:
The page offers some form of free trial. We found no separate pricing page linked from the homepage, which usually means the price arrives by quotation.
All of the above is their copy, not our finding. A dated quotation is the weakest kind of evidence that is still evidence.
What the search data says about Betternet
Worldwide, the brand carries about 70 searches a month: 50 a month for a review of them, 10 a month for an alternative to them and 10 a month for their pricing. Figures read from Google Keyword Planner on 9 September 2026.
The largest share is people checking whether to trust it, which is the honest starting point for a page like this one.
At up to $5.50 a click, these are expensive words. Worth remembering when a review ranks first and happens to recommend whoever pays the most.
The questions behind the numbers
Match the units before anything else
Half this market prices bandwidth and half prices addresses. A per-address plan is cheap for heavy traffic through few exits and ruinous for light traffic through many, and the reverse holds for per-gigabyte plans.
The day something goes wrong
Test the support channel before you need it. Ask something specific and technical, and judge both the speed and whether the answer came from somebody who understood the question.
Why an old benchmark is wrong
Every review of this market, this one included, is a photograph of a moving thing. Read the date on any comparison you find, and discount it heavily once it is more than a few months old.
The comparison, honestly framed
Compare on these rows and ignore the feature lists on both sites:
| Question to ask | Betternet | HProxy |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price | Not verified by us, read their page | From $0.44/GB, pay as you go |
| Does unused balance expire? | Not published clearly, ask before paying | Never |
| Minimum commitment | Check the current terms, this one moves | None |
| Identity checks | Their terms page answers this | Card orders are screened, and verification is sometimes requested |
| Targeting | Worth confirming in writing before you commit | Country, city and ISP |
| Free way to evaluate | Read their current terms | Free proxy list and proxy checker |
Where a cell points you at their terms, that is because the answer moves and a stale quotation would be worse than none. The missing row, in every table of this kind, is the one only your own measurement can fill.
The test that beats this page
It is a small amount of money for an answer that is actually about your target.
- Fund both accounts with the least money each will accept, and note what that minimum was, because it is part of the comparison.
- Aim both at the page that matters to you rather than a test endpoint, and keep every other variable fixed.
- Record the success rate and the data consumed for the identical batch on each side.
- Check some of the addresses yourself for country, ASN and type before you trust the label on the plan.
- Go with whichever performed, then measure again next quarter. Networks change underneath you.
The rest of the shortlist
Buyers comparing this name usually have two or three of these open in other tabs:
- Proxy Store alternatives
- Proxy Tools alternatives
- Proxy Zone alternatives
- proxy25.com alternatives
- Proxy302 alternatives
- Proxy5 alternatives
And to close where this started: a proxy is not a VPN replacement for privacy work. If Betternet was doing the right job for you and you only want it cheaper, this comparison is the wrong page.
Where we fit
For completeness: residential from $0.44 per GB, city and ISP targeting included, no monthly minimum, and a balance that stays where you left it. We are a good fit for uneven workloads and a poor one for anybody who wants a signed enterprise agreement.
