Skip the dead lists.

Our free proxy list re-checks every exit every few minutes across 100+ countries, with a live last-checked time, so you copy IPs that worked moments ago, not a stale text dump.

proxy-free.net does not exist any more. The name stopped resolving, so a browser cannot even find a server to ask, and the last time anything answered there was December 2008.

What it was

The Internet Archive's first working copy of proxy-free.net is from April 2006 and it holds 86 days of captures in total.

The page called itself "Proxy Free". It ran on PHProxy, the script behind most free web proxies of that era.

A proxy server works by intercepting connections between sender and receiver.

That is the site's own description, from the capture of 16 December 2008.

It was listed on workingproxysites.com, a directory of free web proxies, 10 years ago, and that listing counted 333 clicks through to it.

When it stopped

The last capture that shows the proxy itself is from 16 December 2008 and the archive kept visiting until 17 July 2025.

What the name does today

We checked proxy-free.net on 10 September 2026 from our own server. The name does not resolve: there is no address behind it, so nothing can be served from it.

The registry has no record of the name any more, which means the registration itself lapsed rather than the site simply going quiet.

People still look for it: 30 searches a month for the name, according to Google's Keyword Planner read on 10 September 2026.

What still works

The replacement for a dead web proxy is not another name to remember. Our free proxy list shows when each entry was last checked and re-verifies every few minutes, and the checker tests an address you bring yourself.

Free proxies stay shared and short lived. For opening a blocked page that is usually enough, and for anything that has to work at a particular moment it is not.

What this page cannot tell you

The record shows when, not why. Nothing public says whether the operator lost interest, lost the hosting, or simply moved on, so this page does not guess.

Our status check is one day from one vantage point, and a site that refuses requests from data centres would look the same as one that is switched off. We will check this page again by 1 January 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Is proxy-free.net still working?
No. The name no longer resolves, which we checked on 10 September 2026 from our own server. The last working page the Internet Archive holds is from December 2008.
What was proxy-free.net?
A free web proxy running the PHProxy script. Its own page said: A proxy server works by intercepting connections between sender and receiver.
What can I use instead of proxy-free.net?
Start from a list with a visible last-checked time, and test the address before you rely on it. Ours is re-verified every few minutes and the checker tests a single address on demand.
