Thebestproxy.org: what the record shows, and what still works

Thebestproxy.org answers the Internet Archive but not our server. What the record shows, what its address does today, and a proxy list that is checked every few minutes.

Skip the dead lists.

Our free proxy list re-checks every exit every few minutes across 100+ countries, with a live last-checked time, so you copy IPs that worked moments ago, not a stale text dump.

Open the free proxy list

thebestproxy.org answers somebody. The archive holds a page captured on 15 April 2026; our own request, sent from a data centre, timed out. Both of those can be true at once, and only one of them is about the site being gone.

The site it used to be

The Internet Archive's first working copy of thebestproxy.org is from April 2017 and it holds 49 days of captures in total.

The page called itself "The Best Proxy 2021 - anonymous free web proxy site". Underneath it was Glype, the same free script the rest of the directory ran.

Get on sites that are blocked by firewall in your school or work or simply anywhere and completely hide your browsing history.

That is the site's own description, from the capture of 20 April 2017.

A directory of free web proxies, workingproxysites.com, took the listing 13 years ago, and that listing counted 1,635 clicks through to it.

When it stopped

The last capture that shows the proxy itself is from 15 April 2026.

What answers there now

We checked thebestproxy.org on 10 September 2026 from our own server in Germany. It answers with no answer.

The registry record shows the name was registered on 23 March 2017 and is paid until 23 March 2027 through NameSilo, LLC. Its name servers are ns1.dnsowl.com and ns2.dnsowl.com.

The replacement

What this site did, a page you browse through, is worth less now than a list you can test. Our free proxy list carries a last-checked time on every entry and re-verifies every few minutes; the checker tests any single address you bring.

None of that makes free proxies reliable. They are shared, so targets have seen the address before, and they hold no session, which breaks logins.

What we could not establish

No public document explains the ending. We can date it and describe it; anything about motive would be invention, and this page prints none.

This is a single reading from a single vantage point. A proxy that turns away data centre addresses would give us the same silence as a proxy that no longer exists. We recheck by 1 January 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Is thebestproxy.org still working?
We cannot say it is gone. The Internet Archive captured a page from it on 15 April 2026, while our own request on 10 September 2026 from a data centre address got no answer. That pattern usually means the site refuses data centre traffic rather than that it stopped running.
What was thebestproxy.org?
A free web proxy running the Glype script. Its own page said: Get on sites that are blocked by firewall in your school or work or simply anywhere and completely hide your browsing history.
What can I use instead of thebestproxy.org?
A list that is re-checked rather than a name someone remembers. Our free proxy list is re-verified every few minutes, so entries that stop answering drop off it. Free proxies stay shared and short lived, so anything behind a login will still break.
