The page called itself "water sports swimming jetski seadoo at sky-surf.com". It ran on Glype, the script behind most free web proxies of that era.
It was listed on workingproxysites.com, a directory of free web proxies, 13 years ago, and that listing counted 121 clicks through to it.
When it stopped
The last capture that shows the proxy itself is from 6 September 2010 and the archive kept visiting until 13 July 2025.
What the name does today
We checked sky-surf.com on 10 September 2026 from our own server in Germany. It answers, and the page is titled "Attention Required! | Cloudflare".
People still look for it: 10 searches a month for the name, according to Google's Keyword Planner read on 10 September 2026.
What still works
The replacement for a dead web proxy is not another name to remember. Our free proxy list shows when each entry was last checked and re-verifies every few minutes, and the checker tests an address you bring yourself.
Free proxies stay shared and short lived. For opening a blocked page that is usually enough, and for anything that has to work at a particular moment it is not.
What this page cannot tell you
Why it stopped is not in the record. A dead name and an archive that runs out show that something ended, not the reason for it, and we will not put a reason in print that the record does not carry.
Our status check is one day from one vantage point, and a site that refuses requests from data centres would look the same as one that is switched off. We will check this page again by 1 January 2027.
