publicip.nu does not exist any more. The name stopped resolving, so a browser cannot even find a server to ask, and the last time anything answered there was September 2014.
What it was
The Internet Archive's first working copy of publicip.nu is from September 2014 and it holds 11 days of captures in total.
The page called itself "Public IP - Australia Proxy". It ran on PHProxy, the script behind most free web proxies of that era.
You're probably aware that your internet is watched by the prying eyes and some of the websites are blocked by the firewall however you can unblock websites through the proxy server.
That is the site's own description, from the capture of 11 September 2014.
It was listed on workingproxysites.com, a directory of free web proxies, 12 years ago, and that listing counted 733 clicks through to it. The directory recorded it as United States.
When it stopped
The last capture that shows the proxy itself is from 11 September 2014 and the archive kept visiting until 15 April 2018.
By 15 April 2018 the same address answered with something else: the capture from that day is titled "The domain name publicip.nu is for sale | Undeveloped".
What the name does today
We checked publicip.nu on 10 September 2026 from our own server. The name does not resolve: there is no address behind it, so nothing can be served from it.
What still works
The replacement for a dead web proxy is not another name to remember. Our free proxy list shows when each entry was last checked and re-verifies every few minutes, and the checker tests an address you bring yourself.
Free proxies stay shared and short lived. For opening a blocked page that is usually enough, and for anything that has to work at a particular moment it is not.
What this page cannot tell you
Why it stopped is not in the record. A dead name and an archive that runs out show that something ended, not the reason for it, and we will not put a reason in print that the record does not carry.
Our status check is one day from one vantage point, and a site that refuses requests from data centres would look the same as one that is switched off. We will check this page again by 1 January 2027.
