What sat at this address
The public record of hit-the-target.tk is thin. No archive holds a working copy of it, so what is left is the directory entry it was given and what the name does today.
Underneath it was Glype, the same free script the rest of the directory ran.
The listing that carried it, on the free proxy directory workingproxysites.com, is 13 years old, and that listing counted 132 clicks through to it.
When it went quiet
The address is part of the reason. A .tk name was free, handed out by Freenom, and free is what most of these proxies were built on. Freenom stopped issuing new names in early 2023 after Meta sued it over domains used in phishing, and the names already out there stopped resolving over the following year. We checked the whole directory: 8,281 of its 8,948 sites used a .tk address and 8,275 of those are now gone.
What the name does today
We checked hit-the-target.tk on 10 September 2026 from our own server. The lookup fails outright. Without an address there is nothing to connect to, whatever a directory still says about it.
What to use instead
Use a list somebody keeps checking rather than a name that used to work. Our free proxy list is re-verified every few minutes, and an address that stops answering leaves it instead of sitting there for years. If you already have an address, the proxy checker will tell you whether it still relays anything.
The limits of free are the same everywhere, ours included: the addresses are shared, so the sites that care have seen them before, and there is no session to hold, so logins break part way through.
Where the record runs out
There is no account of who ran it or why they stopped. Small sites like this one leave dates behind, not explanations, and we would rather say so than fill the gap.
Treat the check as one sample: taken on one day, from one network. Anything refusing data centre traffic looks identical to something switched off. Due for a recheck by 1 January 2027.
