Typing getproxy.org today gets you a parking page put there by whoever holds the name. The proxy behind it stopped being captured after October 2007.
What it was
The Internet Archive's first working copy of getproxy.org is from February 2006 and it holds 158 days of captures in total.
The page called itself "Proxy Site". The directory recorded it as a Glype install, which is what nearly all of these sites were.
Sorry guys....too many abusers A proxy server can service requests without contacting the specified server, by retrieving content saved from a previous request, made by the same client or even other clients.
That is the site's own description, from the capture of 11 October 2007.
It was listed on workingproxysites.com, a directory of free web proxies, 13 years ago, and that listing counted 1,222 clicks through to it.
When it stopped
The last capture that shows the proxy itself is from 11 October 2007 and the archive kept visiting until 19 July 2025.
What the name does today
We checked getproxy.org on 10 September 2026 from our own server in Germany. It answers with parked.
Where to go from here
A list with a visible last-checked time beats a remembered domain. Ours re-verifies every few minutes; the checker tests a single address if you would rather bring your own.
Expect what free has always meant: shared addresses that targets recognise, and no session persistence, which breaks anything behind a login.
What this page cannot tell you
The record shows when, not why. Nothing public says whether the operator lost interest, lost the hosting, or simply moved on, so this page does not guess.
Our status check is one day from one vantage point, and a site that refuses requests from data centres would look the same as one that is switched off. We will check this page again by 1 January 2027.
