Anonymity.nu stopped working: the record, and the replacement

Anonymity.nu was a free web proxy the archive first saved in December 2014. What it was, when it stopped, what the name does today, and a list that is still checked.

Skip the dead lists.

Our free proxy list re-checks every exit every few minutes across 100+ countries, with a live last-checked time, so you copy IPs that worked moments ago, not a stale text dump.

Open the free proxy list

anonymity.nu answers nothing today, because the name itself was given up. A browser asking for it gets no address back at all, and the last saved copy of the site is from November 2016.

The site behind the name

The Internet Archive's first working copy of anonymity.nu is from December 2014 and it holds 8 days of captures in total.

The directory recorded it as a PHProxy install, which is what nearly all of these sites were.

Somebody submitted it to workingproxysites.com 12 years ago, and 302 people clicked through from there. The directory recorded it as Singapore.

How it ended

The last capture that returned a page at all is from 5 November 2016 and the archive kept visiting until 15 September 2017.

Where the address points now

We checked anonymity.nu on 10 September 2026 from our own server. No address comes back for it at all, so a browser gives up before it can ask for a page.

A working replacement

The useful thing is not another proxy name, it is a list somebody re-checks. Ours drops entries the moment they stop answering, and the checker will tell you whether an address you already have still relays anything.

Free proxies remain shared and short lived, which is fine for opening one blocked page and wrong for anything that has to hold a session.

What this page cannot tell you

Why it stopped is not in the record. A dead name and an archive that runs out show that something ended, not the reason for it, and we will not put a reason in print that the record does not carry.

Our status check is one day from one vantage point, and a site that refuses requests from data centres would look the same as one that is switched off. We will check this page again by 1 January 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Is anonymity.nu still working?
No. The name no longer resolves, which we checked on 10 September 2026 from our own server. The last working page the Internet Archive holds is from November 2016.
What can I use instead of anonymity.nu?
A list that is re-checked rather than a name someone remembers. Our free proxy list is re-verified every few minutes, so entries that stop answering drop off it. Free proxies stay shared and short lived, so anything behind a login will still break.

Our free proxy list re-checks every exit every few minutes across 100+ countries, with a live last-checked time, so you copy IPs that worked moments ago, not a stale text dump. When the location has to survive a real check, the paid network holds up.
